Hi everybody. I just brought in my 2004 Liberty to the dealer for an oil change. My liby has 30000 kms on it and they said that the 4x4 transmission needs to be serviced and they want $400 CDN for it. I was told that it is $200 for labour and $150-200 for parts. I asked what parts and they responded for fluid and conditioner. First, is it supposed to be serviced that early? Second, $150-200 for fluids and conditioner, they got to be kidding. What exactly is involved with this? Does anybody actually bring the Liberty to the dealer to have the 4x4 serviced? Any comment will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Bonn

I do my own..

The fluid in the transfercase (I assume this is what you mean) Is ATF+4... and it is expensive, but I think it only takes a little over a litre I think... Maybe $6 a quart American Dollars!!

All you need is a 10 mm allen wrench pull the drain plug (lower plug, then the fill plug) drain, then add new fluid, Done!

As for the Trnny, it is harder, but you can do it yourself too, I do not know how much the 42rle takes for a change. You will need to drop the pan for this job. You can get aftermarket filters 2 of them, one unbolts with a 8mm socket (I think) the other is like an oil filter. Then some RTV for the gasket, redo the pan. Then fill her back up with the right amount of fluid... sounds worse than it is, trust me, had to do it on the trail once

I'm curious what this "conditioner" they want to put in it is. I'd stay far away from that shop in the future.

If they tell you that it will add body and silkyness to your 4 wheeling experience I think they're pulling your leg :)
