Yeah, I have a Canon SD800 IS (the IS stands for "image stabilization," which you need badly!). It's a nice little digital camera, and yes I can use it. If you're ever in the area, drop me a line and I would be glad to snap some pictures for you.

He is either refering to the stinger on the one we are talking about or ARB's bull bar. Does stick out but no where near 2 feet.

I really think the problem with the pictures has far more to do with inadequate lighting than the camera or photographer. Just open the bay door when there's daylight outside, and I bet the pics would come out just great. For the close-up shots you could just park outside to take them.

When I get mine installed, I'll post pics like a madman, believe me. :)

I never said it was the photographer of the camera. for publication on the internet the camera is fine. and obviously the photographer knows how to use his/her camera. It is the SUBJECT.

Anything Black is a PITA to photograph. Look through ANY catalogue. ALL of the clothing is photographed in any color that it is offered EXCEPT black. All colors and white Reflect light, Black Absorbs it.

If the bumper was not black and the license plate frame was not on there it would photograph much better. Some things are beyond blaming the equipment and the person for, it is a simple case of Physics and light.

Sorry for beating the dead horse, but...

I don't disagree with you--a different color would be better. But here are some shots that I got of Marty's bumper (sorry, Jason ) in broad daylight at Moab a couple of years ago. The bumper is black (but dusty ), but you can still see all of the angles and features.

(I inserted links instead of the images on purpose, so as not to hijack this thread any more than I already have.)

Hey, Marty, maybe we should paint my bumper Stone White to match my KJ, just so that pictures come out better. :)

Hey Crash if you're ever down in Utah Valley I could take a few shots with my new SLR camera for the board. It would show every angle no matter what color you're bumper is. I could also show you what I am thinking for the Powerwagon bumpers.

Why is it that some of you guys would argue with GOD himself about the sky being blue. This is what I do for a living. Of course the black bumper in Moab being DUSTY and in daylight looks okay. Look at the backgrounds.

There is not room here for basic photography 101.

The human eye can see a HUGE range of tones. The camera (film or digital) can not. IF there is a HUGE difference between the lightness or darkness of the subject and the background then the film or digital wants to AVERAGE those light values and it will always want to expose for the lighter. You can compensate for that but your background (if that is light) will over expose and become blown out.

It looks great in person but on film it doesn't

Now back to the bumper. A shinny clean black bumper in a poorly lighted garage will photograph crappy compared to a DUSTY bumper in nice even daylight with the background being closer to the actual lightness of the subject.

That is why I get paid so much to produce the images that sell the stuff you want when you see it.

One other small detail that proves you don't have a clue is look at the bumpers in the pics in Moab. where is your light source? BEHIND the camera The sun is in the face of the bumper and there by blasting it with the best light possible. Crashes garage is the worst light possible. Marlin's bumper is a MATTE finish, as I sais in the earlier post "Even a Matte Finish would be better" Crashes bumper is about as glossy as it can get.

Matte finishes dispurse the light actually swallow it up. glossy finishes reflect it.

I may not know much about wheeling and other car crap but don't even try to argue with me bout photography.

You Pacific NW folks....I am planning a spring trip down to get mine and have it installed at the same time from the Spokane area. If you want to work out something to have me trailer some others back in lieu of freight let me know. It may be that the extra fuel and trailer rent doesn't pencil out though unless there are a few to transport. I could probably handle one on top and one inside if the Golden Retriever doesn't object.

Did you see the guy in the shorts and blue jacket slip and fall in the video? Watch closely to the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. Then right afterward he wipes out you can hear a female voice say, “are you alright?’ It’s hilarious!

I've been struggling to decide whether I want the stinger or not. I like the way it looks, but I've always tried to avoid any mods that look good but don't have any real function. I've wracked my brains trying to come up with a practical use for that stinger, and all I can think of is that you could use it as a handle to hold the KJ down if it's flipping over backwards...but that's the LAST place I'd want to be holding on to! You'd want to use a strap in that scenario.

The only real reason I can think of to keep the stinger is so that I can help JHCRASH show off his work at EJS and the LOST Safari. But maybe someone will be there with an '05+ model with the stinger, so people can compare the look with and without.

You could say it is like a brush guard for protecting the grill and headlights! Or maybe you can use it for pushing cattle when driving through those open ranges? Or when I was living in New Mexico, it was nice to have something in case an Elk or Mule deer ran out in front of us. I can easily justify the use of a stinger!
