How many think we need more active moderation here?

The subject about says it. I'm going to run a poll to see what people think. I don't intend any disrespect to Old Navy. His contributions and sense of humor are missed, but that is the point, he doesn't come around much anymore. Personally, I think we need to keep threads on topic until they have run their course, and we need less politics and peeing contests. And no, I don't want the job. If you are interested in the task, say so in your reply. If you'd like to nominate somebody else, you can do that too.

Well I think they need to be knowledgeable about our little beasts as well as the diesel world in General. As well as being firm but fair when the pi$$ing matches start. There are quite a few people on here that would fit the bill. im sure there could be or should be more than just 1 moderator.

I agree, and if I gave the impression that I want to oust Old Navy, I don't. He is always welcome in my opinion.

Two main reasons oldnavy doesn't show up much anymore -

1 - He no longer owns a CRD, or any Chrysler product for that matter.

2 - What you described in the first post of this thread.

Probably true, but there is not much you can do about that. I wouldn't really expect many volunteers to step forward. We'd have to draft somebody.

2. People keep posting in the wrong forum ( "What kind of tires do I need" , "How do I engage 4lo")

3. Too many hijacks

I think hijacks are generally alright as long as they are productive and respectable.

I think the CRD section is the most on topic and friendly of all. We very rarely see any bad behavior in this section. It seems more like we are "self moderated" than anything else. Now if someone needs or requests something a bit different...like a "sticky" ect...you can alwasy PM me.

gmctd has been brought up recently as a moderator because of his diesel "know how". I thinkg he would be a smart choice...I have met him personally and he is genuine.

In the 3 years I've been here I've seen quit your bitchen posters grow quiet to later come back and make statements like "any more problems and it's out of here" :wink:

I followed LeAnn's frustrating ordeal and seen a couple of knowledgable owners drop them like hot potatoes. I've owned jeep products for a mere 5 or 6 years but have owned about 20 light diesels, mostly but not all VW's since 1978 and have driven them at least half a million miles :shock:

A few were new but most were used and some were ready for the yard :? I've done all my own wrenching unless it was under warranty. Some posters were in diapers when I bought my first diesel :lol:

The crd's "situations" (modern word to avoid the word problems) are not new. At 4k miles my rabbit developed a sticking injector. It had a rough idel, a noise and other symptoms. I got it's normal :cry:

After two tries at the dealer to get my normal problem corrected I did the mortal sin and wrenched my rabbit and fixed the problem. What do I know, I'm a low life tech

The car had to be driven and gotten totally warmed up for these to show up and that was never done. "They didn't have time". I personally don't think there are lemons, just poor dealerships or ones who's hands are tied for various reasons. There are some good dealers and bad dealers and unfortunatly the latter seems more predominent

I've always thought that rules and regulations should be a reflection of the desires of the populace, not an arbitrary expression of power of the ruling regime. With that said, I also think that raw popular democracy is self-destructive and one of the most effective forms of government is a benevolent dictatorship... So, if someone cares to be a benevolent dictator, I'm all for it, but regardless, I'm always in favor of more self-policing.... peer-pressure is a great motivator

I'd say leave the call up to Darby and the other founders/owners/moderators of LOST. It's basically their dime that allows us to have this forum. Whether they're happy with the status quo, or need another moderator to share the load, their call.

I'd second the nomination of gmctd as another moderator, if that's the decision and he's willing. Darby having met him personally and vouching for him definitely carries some weight in this.

This forum is incredibly civil compared to others such as Edmunds and yahoo. At one time on here we referred to Edmunds as the "village idiot" forum if that's any indication.

Hijacks, as long as they have pertinent info and/or are done in a civil manner - acknowledge that the post is off the thread topic, and afterwards give the original poster the opening to return the thread to the original topic if they desire - shouldn't be out of bounds, but done at least with respect and restraint.

I too know of several knowledgeable CRD owners that no longer post because of a certain brand of BS they felt was occurring - that some members were nothing more than company plants, or "shills" as I myself made reference in another thread, masquerading as private CRD owners, their main function being to protect DC's public reputation, oft times by denigrating those with reported problems or seeking remedy via legal means. Truth be told, that has a lot to do with why you rarely see oldnavy on this forum any more.

When I made old navy a Mod, it was for his expertise...gmctd falls in the same category as well as a few others here. Ones with Diesel Background have been a big help here in our small section. So if some what to noiminate a mod for expertise...I am all for it.

I think gmctd would make an excellent conscript... errr moderator. Seriously folks, if your in this as I am, intending to keep the CRD a long time, this forum is the last best hope for long term support. Lets make it as good as it can be.

Honestly, while I have no objection to gmctd, I think Sir Sam would be an excellent moderator. Few here have rebuilt thier CRD from a pile of busted up parts, and his writing style is very non-confrontational to all sides of any issue. But hey, thats my two cents.

And as far as I am concerned, a thread is only hijacked if the original poster has a problem with the direction its gone. If they don't care or are participating in the change of topic, then its no one else's buisness to jump in and try to restore order(unless the personal insults begin of course).

Heh, for once I am in near total agreement with Joe Romas. Hell must be frozen over.

I'd have to agree with the Sir Sam nomination - while I appreciate the votes of confidence, I can just as easily contribute in the guise of peon, as that of Mod - and, I tend to become upset when someone, after posting for help, absolutely refuses to follow responded suggestions for troubleshooting: if the complainant doesn't know enuff to fix his problem, evidenced by his request for help, how on earth does he determine which suggestions to cull, as not gonna help, eh? :roll:

Perhaps someone a little more even-tempered......okay, a lot more even-tempered :evil:

....... would be a better choice.
