Anything needed to lift with the 2.5" Daystar set up besides the kit? Seems like new shocks are needed but no write up says anything about it. Also what is the opinion on the lift? Lifespan? The Jeep spends most of it's life on road so mileage is important. How does lifting TRUELY effect gas mileage without M/T tires. Most likely goign to 245/70 or 245/75 Revo if I lift.

Found one for 180 bucks, new, full kit.

So being I'm not looking for Max'ing out the KJ, how's everyones Daystar going?

Or would you wait and end up going OME later?

04 62,000 miles

Thanks

Well I'm running a 2nd-hand Daystar lift that I got off signcutter21. I've put about 15,000 on it with no real issues. He did replace the front shocks with Ranchos (not sure if they are the 17505s or something else) and I replaced my rears with Rancho 17004s for the extra travel. One minor criticism I have is that the front end seems to have limited compression with stock springs; it seems like the springs reach maximum compression before the suspension reaches the limits of its travel. Other than that I have been pretty happy with the lift. I may see about replacing the springs at some point but thats down the road a ways. And here's a picture of the lift in action a couple of weeks ago:

To answer some of your questions, you'll need all the standard tools (spring compressors and such) if you plan on installing the kit yourself. As for longevity, as I said I am the 2nd owner of this lift with no issues. I know some others on here have had theirs on for a few years and I haven't seen any complaints (that I can remember). And yes your mileage will suffer some with the lift and larger tires, how much depends but it will go down. If you can find some extra rims to keep some road tires on that is one way of lessening the impact on mileage, but then you have the fun of swapping tires whenever you want to go play.

Hope this helps.

I have the Daystar KJ09123 (1.5" front and 2" rear). The kit was $170 new from All-J when I bought it 14 months ago. It came with four poly spacers and four shock boots. I've had the lift on for 13 months and about 13,000 miles. I chose this lift so I could clear the 245/70R16 General tires better and eliminate the rubbing I had up front. I've enjoyed some mild offroading four times since being lifted, and I've not had any problems with the lift. My dealership replaced a defective front driveshaft under warranty with the lift installed, and they never mentioned it.

I'm very happy with the extra space the kit gives me beneath the front skid plate, but I don't like how the lift changed the steering. My Liberty now steers more like my Honda Odyssey minivan. It's not necessarily bad, but different from what I had before installing the lift. I've adjusted to having a little more "slack" in the wheel when starting a turn.

Sure, I would prefer an OME suspension, but $700 plus labor was more than I was willing to invest at the time. (In the grand scheme of things, $1,000 is cheap for a lift kit.) My KJ has 58,000 miles on it and now needs new shocks. Had my shocks been worn when installing the lift, then I probably would have opted for the Rusty's 2" coil lift. I plan to install Ranchos in February/March and replace my springs with those from a pre-lowered KJ to gain some additional lift without stressing the CV joints.

Happy with my Daystar 2" lift, Still have stock struts and shocks. Rides much better with this than stock. I will eventually go to a suspension lift but felt that cost/benefit ratio for the Daystar lift was extremely good.

I installed a 2.5 inch Daystar lift on a 2007 Liberty Sport 4x4. I used the stock struts as they are the factory heavy cartidges allready do to the options on the libby. Ride is great and the only issue that I see is this compresses the front springs a little more than stock. This firms up the ride in the front but lowers the spring compression travel and limits front travel. In the rear it does need longer shocks so the stockers don't top out and clunk. Also on full compression in the rear the jounce bumpers in the center of the rear springs can catch the inside lip of the Daystar spring spacers causing a light clunk or pop heard inside. I am installing a set of longer air-shocks in the rear so I can level out the ride height when I am loaded and have my off-road tent trailer hooked up when wheeling with the family. :P
