So, apparently the provent is working a bit better than I thought and I need to drain it more often. I left the jeep out the other night in one of the few sub-freezing nights we've had so far and came out in the morning to an oily mess on the driveway. I had routed the provent drain under the air box and down just behind the washer fluid bottle. It is 1/4 ID poly tubing and has a plastic "water-cooler" valve hose-clamped to it. Now, either that couple inches of oil completely wore through the hose in a few months or the oil/water froze and expanded/cracked the valve. I still need to peel back the oil-soaked tape I put around the clamp and troubleshoot. Regardless, what have other people used for a CCV filter drain valve that DOESN'T leak when it gets cold?

Dan

I just use an aluminium oil catch tank, and we've had freezing weather for a while now. No problems.

Not sure my setup is as efficient as a provent to catch the oil mist, but I am thinking about adding some steel wool to create more surface area in the path.

I used the same type valve on mine, and it leaked like crazy. I then tried a rubber stopper clamped in place. It leaked too.

Then I took a 1/2" barb fitting with a threaded end. I put some PTFE tape on the threads and screwed on a PVC cap. So far, no leaks. :)

I used a 1/4" pipe ball valve that came on my Harbor Freight pancake compressor.

I assume that's brass construction? I think that's way I need to go for cold weather stability (metal and not plastic).

I used a plastic valve and it didn't work for crap.

You also have to figure what damage the nasty oil will do to seals. If it eats our CAC hoses and makes them soft, it will do the same for a rubber seal.

Yes, the body is brass, ball is chrome and seat appears to be nylon :D Finding more is another problem though, I think I found them at Lowes or HD at a pretty steep price :o Into it I screwed a hose barb. I had a length of hose coming out but it's contents would drip till it was empty so I took it off and only put it on when I drain it then it comes off and drips in a can
