Has anyone experienced your gear shift getting stuck in park? I have an 06 CRD Sport, OME lift, and on occasion (every few days) the gear shift will not come out of park. It is as if it is locked in place. When I keep working it for a while it eventually seems to release from whatever was locking it and will shift. The dealer is trying to help but "cannot duplicate". I have followed their instructions to apply the parking brake before putting into park, but that doesn't help and the shifter gets stuck even on completely level ground. It is really getting to be a big problem. Thanks for any help or advice you can offer.

try jigglying the key, the shifter wont release if it thinks it is in any position other than run.

also, if the brake switch sense isnt being properly triggered then it will not release as well.

Will happen to me if my wheels are at full lock when I park the KJ. Just giving the wheel a a little pull kicks it right out though.

Probably "brake switch"...you can always turn the key to the on position...move selector to Neutral...start and put in Drive.

I just had a shifter replaced at 35K miles.

I had trouble getting it back into Park and it started to get sluggish between gears. At first the dealer had trouble duplicating the problem. When I went to pick it up I couldn't get it out of Park and got the mechanic to show him. He had to play with the key to get it into gear.

Thanks everybody. I'm taking it in to the dealer again on Wednesday to see what they can find. I'll post what happens.

As things turn out, on Christmas Eve the gear shift got stuck again and my CRD had to be towed in to the dealer. The dealer fixed it today (day after Christmas). Replaced the shifter block and linkage. Seems to work just fine now. The dealer was really helpful in getting it towed in, and they paid to rent a car for me, and so if it had to happen it worked out pretty well. Glad I wasn't off-road somewhere when it happened! Thanks everybody for sharing your thoughts and experiences with this problem.

A little late but if it happens again you can just unhook the linkage and everything works just fine, the linkage from the brake peddle that it.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago. After pulling a few fuses and replacing them the problem went away. So jiggle everything is the way to go? It happened to me on a Sunday in BFE (indian country) so I had to fix it. I'm at 31000 so the warranty is almost gone. How can I bypass this?

Unhook the linkage from the brake and you are home free. The gearshift cover comes off just by pulling it. It was what the dealer and I did to get me around till the parts showed up.
