great pics. Nice job! Clean.

Mine is still on there. First one and still going. 73,000 miles on the KJ now.

Yes, it's still for sale. Kinda. Kids don't want me to sell it. so I'm lurking around here somewhat, on a limited basis.

Thanks for the post! Am getting ready to tackle this and was agonizing over the antenna install - but this approach looks like the ticket!

I am having some problems finding the components you list in your build out - can I get some assistance. This is what I have identified so far:

Parts List:
- Firestik: AR-1A, Match-Maker, CB/AM/FM, CB Antenna Splitter (retail $16)

http://www.walcottcb.com/product_info.p ... cts_id=221

- Wilson Silver 3' antenna.

http://www.walcottcb.com/wilson-fgt-fib ... p-913.html

- Double female antenna wire connector

?

- 3' Jumper CB wire ($9)

http://www.walcottcb.com/firestik-r36a- ... p-813.html

- Double female 3/8" nut for bottom of antenna (free)

Guess I can figure this one out... :)

- CB wire to FM wire converter ($9)

?

- will add spring soon

Not sure I will be adding the spring - your thoughts...

Yup, that's what you need. I am currently doing this (waiting on a spring - don't ask). I ordered all of my items from Walcott, and that motorola connector is what you'd need.

Ran into a major snag - I have the NAV radio from Jeep and it does not use a Motorola connector - I now have to find some kind of adapter for that guy to be able to do this. For now I have the antenna mounted on the ARB Bull Bar up front.

I have the RB1 Nav unit as well. Makes no difference since I didn't connect to the head unit, instead I connected to to the coupling in the passenger side foot well. I'm not sure if the newer NAVs are different, but I suspect they're still the same at the antenna extension connection point as I described.

I finally got around to installing mine today.

If one were so inclined (as I was), with a bench grinder and a vice, you can grind the 3/8-24 threads off the spring and use a die set to tap a 5/16-18. The 3/8-24 minor (root) diameter is close enough to the 5/16-18's crest or major diameter.

No need to drill out the stock mount, and it's easily reversible!

I highly recommend checking SWR with this setup. Mine was pegged out, thought I had a bad wire or something. I played with the splitter and got it all under 1.5, and I haven't even started messing with the antenna yet. So, don't be like me and freak out, make some small adjustments to the CB screw in the splitter.

Who, me? Not much to see (didn't take any).

I think I misspoke in my previous post. I didn't "tap" a thread (meaning a female thread).

I ground the threads off the Firestik spring and then used a die to cut 5/16-18 threads on the stud end. Used a dremel with a sanding drum to remove a little plastic on the stock cover to clear the spring. Screwed it in, looks just like yours. You CAN also tap it if you were so inclined - there's more than enough meat there. Just cut the 3/8-24 end off and drill the appropriate sized hole for a 5/16-18 to tap into. Use a tap, then get a stud or cut the head off a bolt to use it as a stud.

Since we export models get the licence plate on the spare tire there's not really any good way to fit the antenna to the rear. So I found this to be a nice place, like the way they used to fit radio antenna's in days gone by.

Image

The plastic of the cowl is not strong enough to hold the cb's antenna so I fabbed up a little support.

Jeep provided a good ground point :D

I dropped the cable down alongside the intake of the heater system, that's way better then trying to push it through the firewall rubber thing on the driver's side.

It now lays stored in the glovebox, so no loose wires in my car when the CB is not in use.
