Hello,

Still looking to buy my CRD. Can anyone tell me if there is any differences between the two years? Thanks

Pete

Warranty but it probably doesn't matter because the extra year of use makes them both go out of warranty about the same time.

2006 comes with the ABS,BS (Brake Assist), ROM (Rollover Mitigation), TC (Traction Control) and ESP. All a plus as far as I am concerned.

Otherwise they are basically the same.

The 2006 models do not have the limited slip rear diff available that the '05's had.

That would be redundant because it has the traction control.

I think I read the 06 engine ECMs are incripted but Inmotion seems to have a handle on that. The engine wiring harness on the 06 is routed higher and it rubs on the fuel filter bracket. The ESP equipted 06's also have a speed sensor on the rear differential. Could be more small differences. But the biggie is all the stuff bundled under the "ESP" name.

Aren't side curtain air bags more common on the 06's?

Could be but they're not standard at least on my low end 06 limited

The 2005 model has cooler door lock stems then the 2006. I doubt this makes much difference though... :)

I was asking trying to look at the mechanical/ feature aspects to see if I would be better off buying an 06, or buy the earlier 05 and save a little on insurance. I'm still looking because the dealer didn't accept my offer on an 06 two weeks ago.

Just my own observation that it seems like most of the problems on this board are with 05 owners, while the happy owners seem to be the 06 ones. Not that there aren't exceptions of course. I may not be noticing things though, so I don't know if my observation is correct or not...

No I don't think that could be so, I got those curtain air bags in my 03. The bags in the ceiling sides right?

I think this can only apply to the US models. My EU 03 has the least TSBs and problems with TC failures.

Also, the 05 can pull codes with the ignition key trick, the 06 can't.

The 05 tends to have less flashes done to it by the owners, whereas most 06 had a lot done by the dealer. Including the dreadded F37 nuetering. I avoided most flashes. It tuned out that most of the 50mph stuttering was the air in the lines from the fuel filter head ssues...so skipping the flashes was a good thing. You can find the flash history in the stickers on he ecu or on the grills. Beware any vehicle with too many flashes.

Whatever you do, pull the fuel heater plug and look for scorching. Demand that the WHOLE FILTER HEAD ASSEMBLY be replaced if there is any leaking (try priming with the fuel heater plug out) or scorching. See the ongoing thread on this forum about te fuel filter head.

Also, if some crazy, whacked out eco-nut/extreme-nationalist was using biodiesel in it, the whole thing will explode as soon as you take it home so don't buy it

Mine was born in the latter half of 05 and has been trouble-free minus fuel head issues (which appear to be common on both years). Perhaps the 05 owners simply have more mileage :)

Any differences in engine/tranny hard parts, or electronics?

Engine and tranny are the same. 06's have a slightly different brake line configuration and need a relocation bracket or longer brake line if and when you lift it.

I'm a happy 05 owner, I ordered mine from the factory in May of 05, got it in June. only issue so far has been recall of LBJs, TC and reflash. I still have the original filter head, added the CAT filter, no lift pump.

What kind of price difference should there be between the two years?

I just did an autotrader search and found 212 05/06 CRDs for sale.

$26,999 Highest price
$14,927 Lowest price
$20,008 Average price

Only 2 within 50 miles of Lincoln.

8 within 200 miles of Lincoln, lowest price was at Carmax for $17,995 for a 2005 with 32k

Yes,

I've been watching auto trader very carefully. The one in Omaha is the vehicle that I offered 16,800 for. They declined. It is a limited with no options. Bare...
The carmax vehicle belonged to a former lost member-You can read his thread. I wish I would have been able to buy direct from him. I'm fairly picky about my vehicles, and this is a big purchase for me.

The limited models you mentioning do not come bare, but with many standard features not on the sport models. That's why they are a few thousands more new. When I get time tomorrow, I still have my window sticker and can see what's included with the Limited and let you know.

I have an 05 and the ignition trick for trouble codes does not work on it.
