I'm guessing Hanging steel refers to purchasing one of those big steel bumpers. Not in the plans yet. The wife drives the KJ into downtown Baltimore every day and the roads are fairly screwed up there. She previously drove my old pickup on occasion and she hated it because I had HD Springs and shocks on it. I hated it as well. This is why I was concerned about dropping HD stuff on. Will the Medium Springs sag a bit as well or not likely since my vehicle will be a pavement pounder?

P.S. Have that pinch weld looked at soon and properly sealed up. A fairly important structural location, that is why people just pound it flat and not cut it off. But make darned sure it is primed, painted herculined or some how sealed up. GREAT place for rust to start and work it's way into the structure of the KJ.

The guy who did it works in a body shop and he assured me it would be OK. He primed the area where he ground and put undercoating on it. Assuming the lift affords me the clearance I need I will put new fender wells in.

lots of difference between the old spring lifts on pickups and the OME springs, read up on them at arb.com and see what you think then, mediums should not sag at all

If your wife drives in downtown Baltimore SHE NEEDS A BIG BUMPER  be surpried how many people get nervous when they look up and see me behind them with the ARB sticking out there!

simon says ...said that

My statement was directed at $500 to $1,300 lift kits on the market. I may be new to this but that does not seem like allot of money for what I want done. If these kits were in the $1,500 - $2,000 range I would not be considering it. Besides, any decent sum of money I have will go to my car. I just want to get the clearance I need and do it right.

get OME medium springs and the OME shocks from rusty's(they are not the long travels but will work for ur wifes DD and they are way cheap) here is a link to both

$40/each for the OME shocks

$100 for the springs and i think thats each
http://rustysoffroad.com/mm5/merchant.m ... Code=COILS

or Rocky road has the springs cheaper$68/$69 and also has the struts but they are more there$78(might be the long travels) and have the front struts for $135
http://www.rocky-road.com/kjome.html

Rustys lift kit $465 for everything

hope this helps u out.. i would go with the OME stuff though

Don't mean to jump in but can someone confirm that at Rusty's that price for springs is 100 a pair not each. I think I'm reading the website right. I to am trying to piece together my lift. Rusty is cheapest on the springs and rear shocks but I am not sure if the rears they sell are the OME132L as 80 for the pair is quite a bit cheaper then anywhere else. Also Rusty's doesnt show the HD springs for the front at all and I can't seem to find the front OMENS131 struts on the site either. I'll order those separate. Thanks

Also do I need trim spacers or can I just do the clevis lift for .5 inch and do I need to change any of the bumb stops. Thanks

With more searching I answered part of my question. Just when you think you found ever post... HA!

Rusty's performance strut # RX-131KJ is an OME 131 front strut for $119 which is cheaper than anywhere else so far. Also found others being misled on the rear shocks and that they are NOT the long version from Rusty's and the whole AllJ rights to those.

So my only questions then is when is the long shock needed compared to the regular OME132. (with the OME MD or HD springs?) And if I order the long version from AllJ then bump stops are needed as well? Thanks -Ryan

the OME coils at Rustys is per PAIR, but I have ordered from both Rustys and Rocky Road, but did poor jobs in my opinion I cancelled my orders and ordered from DPG Off-Road paid a little bit more but he is a WAY better person to deal with I paid $175 for 2 coils shipoped directly from ARB to my house, trust me you cant go wrong with Dirk at DPG and hes also the only person in the states that you can get a snorkel for a KJ

I don't see why y'all give the OME Light Duty front springs such a bad rap. Those that have them report that they are pleased with the performance. Quite a few praise OME for selling a quality product and yet bash the recommended spring for those who don't plan on a bumper or a winch.

I, for one, am very happy with the OME Light front/ Medium rear combo. It is an improvement on the street for DD use and performs well off-road. The Light springs still gave more than the "advertised" 1 1/2 inch lift.

jsc7002: I see you have the regular rear shocks 132s, I am assuming they work fine with the OME springs so when are the long travels needed.
