I really want to solve this once and for all. what is so bad about an OTT lift. We all know about the struts failing but with a proper bump stop it solves that issue. so what else!!!??? I would love to know, I have driven my dreaded OTT lift for 20k now. not one problem, nothing. I have extended bump stops for security. My cv angles are good, no ball joint contact on the spring. it rides great and I can run 31" tires with it.

Unless sombody can give me something other then struts you might as well say the OTT is a good viable lift.

OK so maybe..... just maybe the OTT is not too bad, But what happens is someone looks at it and its cheap ..right?? .... buys it unknowingly and installs it only to find out that now he has to buy extended bump stops, etc. IF some company is going to sell them then they should sell them with a warning you must also do this, this and this to make it work. I for one like to do things the right way the first time and do it with quailty parts, done it when I was young half a$$ed and paid for it.
I have seen what the OTTs can do first hand, the kid that had my ARB installed it and within 12000 miles had destroyed the upper a arms/ the struts failed and tore off the right fender etc etc his Dad paid to have it put back to stock and I reaped the rewards. I still have all the junk parts he gave me so I have an OTT lift laying in my garage.
LiL RedLibby had the OTT from Rustys and swore he had found the solution, longer struts from a mini van?? never got the number from him though

The RevTek is a good non-spring lift...does not have any UBJ contact...keeps CV Shaft angles in good shape...just need longer rear shocks than OEM. If you can find a used one?...it would be well worth the money IMHO. It will give you 2" of usable lift...can sqeeze in 245/75/16s or easily fit 235/75/16s.

OTT lifts cause problems because they change the mounting point of the front struts. A small change in alingment the wrong way can cause big problems. More had problems than not...from personal experience...lol.

A spacer of .75"-1" will net more than that in a front strut with IFS...close to 1.25"-1.50". It is just the geometry of the setup. When the first Daystar Pucs came out...they were 2.5"...after a few of us played around with them (I turned mine down)...we found that 1.75" puc netted about 2.5" on a 2002-early 2003 (before KJs were loweered form the factory).

Nothing wrong with a good spacer lift...then you can add springs to the rear first...clevis the front...and then eventually add springs/strut to the front at a later date.

After looking at some installation pictures, I see how the .75" spacer provides 2X the lift. So it seems that Daystar and RevTek are the best spacer lifts. Any preferences? Are there drawbacks or attributes to either one on a diesel? AllJeep (or anyone else with a Daystar on a diesel), which lift do you have? I see one that says it is for diesel that has 1&1/2" in front and 2" in back. I see another 2&1/2" all around.

I bought the 2.125 combo lift from RRO. Its basically the 2" Daystar lift with a .125 strut spacer plate. I'm running stock struts and shocks and have over 25k miles on the lift with a total of 45k on my CRD. No problems at all. IMHO the ride is much better than stock. It firms up the front end, less body roll.

It was well worth the price for what I have used it for. I'm planning to do more off roading this year so its time to upgrade, probably a FLII, and change out the UCA's, balljoints etc. I don't consider going with the spacer lift a mistake, the cost/benefit was very good. I only had 20k on the CRD at the time. If I had to make the same decision today, shocks and struts alone would dictate a different route.

The RRO "Combo" lift has been tested by many members...at Moab...works great. The only thing is a few people here have had issues with RRO/shipping/payments...I had good luck with them back in 2002-2003 but others have had issues.

Someone told me: The original CRD Frankenlift used the Daystar fronts till the OME CRD springs showed up.

And: The daystar kit is the best spacer kit. so until OME brought out a 500lb spring, the daystar lift was the best alternative for diesel KJs.

It is still a good budget lift for all KJs.

Daystar seems pretty solid to me. Now I hope we didn't scare of the guy who posted the inicial question, I can only say:

Think of how much rough stuff you wanna do with your Rene. Or are you the occasional wheeler like me? And do you just want the lift for kicks and bigger tires, like me? Then why plunge in a $1000+ while you can have the same effect for $200?

I've ordered the Daystar KJ09123BK 1,5" / 2" spacer lift. ( for a CRD ).

They also make a very nice 2,5" kit for the gas version, the KJ09115BK. Check it at http://www.daystarweb.com

OME springs and Rancho shocks / struts should be right at that level or you can buy a full spring lift from Rustys also but in the long run OME is better

I'm going to be selling my used 1.5"/2" Daystar CRD lift some time this year, in case someone wants to wait a little while for a REALLY good deal on a Daystar spacer lift that works well with the diesel heft.

Now you tell me....

How did it work out for you? Did you fit it yourself? Did you keep stock shocks/struts?

You're first on the list 501.

With the help of some forum friends, we had a lift party and put it on ourselves. All in all, it wasn't too hard. The regular "rental" spring compressors don't fit in the narrow gap of the CRDs heavy rate front spring though, so I had to buy the "cheaper" model (because they only rent the "nicer" one). The arms are thin enough to jam in there and get the job done if you buy the cheaper one.

The front is definitely the hardest part to install. Start there.

I left on the stock struts and shocks. It's performed fine for me. Give's you a bit of boost to fit larger tires. Cheap as can be. I got it knowing full well that it was going to be an interim lift. There were no replacement CRD springs back when I lifted, so I went with the least expensive thing. It's always been my plan to change to spring lift later. That being said, if I were planning to leave the puck lift on for a long time, I would have gotten struts and shocks.

Make sure that you give it a week or so after install, and then get it aligned. I waited a while on getting the alignment done and it SHREDDED my front tires. However, those were the stock Junkyear tires, so I was happy to see them go.

No worries, I have the spring compressors. Somewhere...in my tool shed.

I am looking for some Rancho RSX 17004's rear shocks, people tell me they do a good job. I'll keep the front struts stock for now. You're getting Frankie....I am getting jealous...
