Well Pertson's just labaled the Chrysler 8.25 as a "less then desireable" axle, okay for soccer mom use but not stong enough for offroad abuse.Taken with a grain a salt though 8) .

Some years of D60's,'75-'79 Chevy low-pinion D44's(no mention of the Ford HP44 though :?:,nothing better then 1/2" axle tubes, and high pinion ),later model year Wagoneer D44's,and that's about it,all others pretty much on there less then desireable list.Like I said I took it with a grain of salt.

i take it that the 8.25 is on their list because of the c-clips

That and lack of gear choices(4.56's is the lowest you can go),and only 27 or 29 spline axles.

Heck, whoever said the 8.25 was near as strong as a D60?

Its plenty strong enough for our Libertys. If we could run 35" tires then there may be issues but thats not the weak point of a liberty.

Who cares what they say.

Peterson's people are hardly experts, for the most part. A lot of their info has been flat-out wrong over the years. Yeah, an 8.25 isn't a D80. But it is decent for what it does.

I have wheeled a dozen different rigs over the years, and never used lower than 4.56 gears. The average was probably around a 3.73. And I think that would probably be the same for at least 90% of all 'wheelers out there. BIG grain of salt.

Wow, if they don't like the 8.25, I wonder what they said about the D35?

Yeah, and my buddy has one in his '93 XJ, has taken it all over creation, and not had a lick of trouble.

What I am saying is that if they did not like the 8.25, they must have HATED the D35 (at least on paper)!!!
