performance module

I thinking about putting on a performance chip for a little more power and milage. Im leaning towards a TDC technologies or a Painless striker fuel economy modual. I can get these on ebay for a couple hundred dollars each. The TDC is made in germany and does not raise the fuel pressure. Any comments or recommondations? I don't tow. :?:

I'd get in touch with InMotion and go for a chip tune. The chip tune works with more than a few sensors. It is a complete reprogramming of the stock ECU.

what do you mean it will work with all the sensors? I thoght it would be easier to just plug in, rather than have a week of down time!

I went with an Edge EZ chip (was only $225 bucks used off Ebay). I was actually looking for more fuel economy over more power (though I won't turn down more torque for towing).

My main reasons for going with the chip was having the ability to disable it for future emissions inspections (can't disable a re-programmed ECU), and not having to deal with the hassle of mailing the ECU back in to be reprogrammed all over again if a dealer ever re-flashed it.

Inmotion likely gives more power.

I have the predator and can smoke the tires if I want. Since I did the fuel mod I never had any need to unplug it. I'm getting great mileage from it too. The only problem is it may take out the factory torque convertor. I heard the InMotion has the same problem. Maybe one more cross country trip and back towing and I have to go to the Suncoast upgrade. :lol:

Turnaround time from InMotion is 3 days.

The chip tune works by having new programming loaded into the ECU that tells the engine what to do. A module can only read the sensors it's plugged into and "fool" the computer by changing the signals it sends to the ECU.

As a techno geek, the ECU makes complete sense to me.

If the only thing it plugs into is the fuel pressure sensor, the only thing it does is raise fuel pressure. Can't have it any other way.

Thanks for all you guys that replied! I was hoping someone had the TDC module on their jeep. I remember reading that it does not raise the fuel pressure ,thats what made it enticing for me. The Inmotion seems like it would be the best modification but the thought of the down time ,and having to send it back if the stealer does a reflash is steering me away.

The biggest issue for me is the lack of data on what the different modules actually do. Emails to tech support may help.

(mine will be after lift pump and EGT gauge - so not yet - but in the plan)

You don't have to send your ECU to InMotion any longer.

They will "rent" you a device you plug into your laptop (if you have one) that will pull the existing code down. Then you email the code to them, they modify it, and you use the device to upload the tune right through the ODB port under the drivers side dash.

To get the device, they put a $2000 hold on your card, and refund it back when you return the device minus the shipping and rental feel which I believe is $40 or something like that.

You would have NO downtime.

I have this chip plug in that came from ebay for $200.They are still available.Half the money of Edge with all or more performance.
It took 2 minutes to plug it in,and some adjust-the-screw and drive to find the increase in power that I wanted,.Amazingly simple and it made the crd a tire burner without the MAF unplugged.Still on the wait list for the SEGR's.
No issues with cold start at all.Vehicle sat for two solid days at -28 at night and started immediatley.I could not plug in the vehicle block heater where it was.
I have two CRD's.My wife did not want the power chip.........till she drove my jeep one day!
It averages close to 2 mpg increase as well a lot more torque which is great for towing.Just back off on the throttle for the TC lockup shifts especially when towing or the F37 will be worthless. the jeep has considerably more power than it had stock before the TC recall.
There are two other people locally here that have purchased these because of the improvement on my vehicle. They too are very satisfied.

This is not true. Timing and injection pulses are monitored/ adjusted with this sensor also.

My Edge module plugged into the MAP sensor connection as well as the fuel pressure sensor.

Those tack-on modules do not actually vary rail pressure - they offset Boost and rail pressure sensor output, which fools the ECM into thinking there is less fuel and Boost for current go-pedal demand - ECM responds by increasing VNT angle to increase Boost and increasing fuel rate to keep up - any rail pressure increase is resulted from increased fuelrate - simple, but effective, but provides no increased compensation in the transmission

The Inmotion tune, on the other hand, works with the ECM and the TCM, increasing output and increasing transmission response for that increased output by flashing the Euro tune - the Euro KJ's are not de-tuned quite so heavily as ours, which are calibrated to meet stringent US emissions requirements

The ECM reflash will give better results - however, if you're still not satisfied, you could 'stack' the module onto the reflash for some really wild Homer Simpson pyrotechnics

That's why I went with a plug in chip, just in case I have to get an emission test. I can unplug and plug it back in as soon as the emission test is over. Both the InMotion and chip will take out the factory torque in due time.

Explain how. Or are you reciting the marketing line?

The module fools the ECM into thinking that rail pressure is low, so it increases rail pressure, and thus, the amount of fuel passed thru the injectors in a given time. I work on Cat common-rail design teams for a living. You can't see injector timing or duration through the rail pressure sensor. They are separate systems.

The Edge module plugs into the MAP sensor too, so it does boost fooling. One of the better modules IMO.

The ecu controls timing and duration of injection. One of the inputs to determine this is fuel rail psi.
