I am probably posting something that has been asked before, and if so I apologize, however I am wondering if I install a OBDII reader on the port in my Jeep, and tie it into my Windows Mobile based PDA(Dell Axim X51v, via Bluetooth), and run a OBDII program on there, will I have any problems due to the strange setup of the CRD? I have turned the PDA into a music jukebox, GPS and trip planner, it would be nice if it was able to read data, error codes, etc from the engine as well, but I don't know if thats problematic in this configuration. No point dropping the money if its not going to work right.

I suspect anything that's not too sophisticated, when connected for real-time while-driving data access, will eventually lose comm, seemingly quicker in the '06's - the Autoenginuity appears to function, but is expensive and clunky with the PC laptop - they do have specific apps for PDA and Palm PC, but I don't see how anyone could see any details on those screens while in driving mode - possibly they have different screen data - also, the midgets don't get the Dyno software.

Only time my AE lost comm was when the laptop did it's 'power down after 15mins' thing, as selected in power management config - it's a pre-owned pc, so I never thought to look, till earlier this week.

I checked with AE - they do not support PDA-based monitoring for the CRD, only laptop-based.

The paticuliar PDA I have has a very nice screen for this application, it works great with TomTom for navigation and I don't have any problem seeing it when I need to(aside from occasional glare). Its not so much that I need a bunch of stats all the time as I'd like to be able to check or keep an eye on things for long trips, or just have a big realtime mileage gauge up there for day to day driving.

Probably just a vanity, probably not important, just wondering if it would be a problem. If anyone knows of a proven solution, I'd love to know about it.

AE is a full function scantool, fully emulating the DRBIII for testing, monitoring, and controlling - has modules for DCJ, FoMoCo, GM, and all the oriental and Euro systems - on the laptop it displays any 9 of hundreds of enhanced parameters in a 3X3 array, in meter, graph or grid format - fairly large on a Lattitude 850 - if you have not, visit their 'site and check it out - I think observing the comm linkup with AE connected would make things very transparent to anyone delving into the problems with the SGII and other monitors, all vanity aside, as it were - all I can do is wish for some delving :( .

Reflex,
You might want to check this link:
http://www.qcontinuum.org/obdgauge/index.htm
The displays shown look quite crisp and are informative.
You'll have to check if it supports the OBDII CAN operation.

Not bad and the price is right as well(free!). Worth a shot at least, especially if I can find a cheap BT OBDII device to tie it to...

Joe Romas had previously pointed out these affordable ELM327 interfaces. I emailed the author of OBDGauge to verify that it could read a CAN interface through a serial ELM327 interface, but never heard back. At $75 (plus shipping?) for the ELM327 scanner versus $149 shipped for the Scangauge, I went with the Scangauge. I can always get most of my money back on the Scangauge on EBay.
