It was about -50F here with windchill and now the Jeep wont run. I can get it to fire but it will only run for about 30 seconds. Has anybody had gelled fuel in thier crd here. Already dumped a bottle of diesel 911 in it. Was thinking about getting a space heater and pulling it in the garage and see what happens. Antbody have any suggestions for me on what to try? Oh yeah gotta love North Dakota LOL.

I think you've got the right idea, get it warm, consider changing the fuel filter and make sure there is no air in the filter head.

FYI - windchill affects only warm-blooded items and creatures - infernal combustion-type devices fit in neither category - premium Diesel fuel should be protected down to ~40deg ACTUAL temperature in your area of the country - adding additional additive for gelling protection may be necessary, as is keeping the block-heater plugged in, and waiting for the fuel heater to warm up the fuel in the filter - a 150w floodlamp powered-up in the engine bay would help, and another near enuff to the fuel tank to keep it warm without melting the plastic - adding the anti-icing stuff when Bambi the weather-girl first hints of colder weather will get the stuff into the system and mixed well B4 the temps drop

Got inside now with the space heater in the garage. Plan on getting the fuel filter changed when i can get it to the dealership. Oh yeah and i have been running the power service additive all winter and it was plugged in from about 7 pm till about 10 this moring when i tried to start it. I think i put deisel 2 in it so when fill it next time its getting diesel one. I also know there has been a shortage of diesel two here making it 20 cents more expensive.

Pull the fuel filter and dump half of it out. Fill the rest with ps 911. You already put some in the tank so that should be good. Plug in and start after awhile. It is gonna be cold tonight!!

When they talk of hell freezing over I think they meant North Dakota!!! Oh yeah and if anyone here is Air force or former Air Force then the phrase Why Not Minot will mean something to ya. On another note got the Jeep running so I am thinking it was gelled fuel and the space heater worked good. Only had it on it for about an hour and it was just blowing heat on the underside of the jeep.

I drive a big truck, And i use Howes Diesel treatment/anti-gel, And it works great. I have heard some bad things about the 911 stuff, But personally have not used it.

Bugnout i actually gave my younger brother that shirt for christmas lol. I will have to look into that howes diesel treatment. So far so good i let it run for about an hour and had no problems so more than likely it was gelled and its getting parked in the garage tonight.

Spent my last year in the AF in Minot. Notice I said, "last year". That assignment was enough to convince me a college education would be a good idea. There were good things about the place though. Summers had some of the most beautiful sunny days...

On a side note, we had Chevy Diesel trucks up there, and when we'd go to a site we'd leave them running the entire time we were out in the field. We didn't dare shut them down as there was no way were getting stranded. Besides, the trucks running all day long let us keep our MREs warm. :)

I was on a job in a place called Cold Lake Air Base in nothern Alberta Canada. The temps were -47 (no windchill) and folks with diesel trucks never shut them off. One chap said his Ford had been running for over a month.

Global Warming posits an equalization of temperatures between the poles and the equator, ie: colder winters and summers at the equator, warmer winters and summers at the poles. It does not mean it gets warmer everywhere.

Just saying, I don't buy into Al Gore's paranoid fantasies either, but climate change itself is definatly noteworthy even if man isn't behind it(although I do think we are a contributing factor).

Hmmm - I would have thought hotter weather at the equator as the poles warmed up, with 'cold-front' temps rising accordingly - after some big catastrophe, with lots of land in the atmosphere, the equator would cool as global temps averaged out, with colder cold-fronts and cooler equator

Now, dinosaur extinction theory - if a great comet caused a huge transference of real estate into the atmosphere, and considering archaeological\paleontological data, and proposed nuclear-winter theory, which would decimate warm-blooded life within 5years just from food deprivation, those cold-blooded beasties didn't go to bed on Thursday nite and wake up dead the next morning - took'em 10 million years to finally croak out - only took a few years for mount StHelens to return home, same for mount Pinatubo in the P.I. - Krakatoa has not been detectable in the atmosphere since way last century - those are small, comparatively, but 50 years would be a stretch for 'comet-winter', not even a second in time compared to 10mil - what took'em so long?

If you really want to get freaked out by CO2, read this: http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=imp ... m-the-deep

To my mind its a far more credible threat than global warming.
