We will be meeting on Sunday morning at 8:30am at the Anthem Wal*Mart parking lot. We will depart promptly at 9am

Directions: Take the I-17 north and exit on ANTHEM WAY, go LEFT, at the next stop sign you will see the Wal*Mart on your left, we will meet in the north/west corner of the parking lot.

CB radio: Channel 4
FRS radio: Channel 4

The Table Mesa rd, east trail
Trail Description: Very scenic drive, considered moderate terrain. high clearance vehicles recommended. Lockers are not needed. Trail is very rocky and bumpy. there are some optional 3.0 roads to take. I recommend stopping at the old cabin for lunch, after that the trail calms down and becomes a 2.0 at best. There is a fun hill to climb towards the end.

Note:Arizona State Land Recreational Permit required on first mile or so of this trail. (which i can get this week at the office in downtown)

as of 05/01/2005 This trail has been graded and some of the harder bypasses blocked. Downgraded its rating to just 2.5

GPS CORDS
01 N33 58' 05.5" W112 07' 34.3"
02 N33 58' 20.0" W112 03' 45.1" (Right)
03 N34 00' 34.1" W111 57' 14.0" (Right)
04 N34 00' 32.5" W111 52' 45.0" (Right)
05 N33 52' 42.2" W111 48' 54.0" (straight)
06 N33 47' 57.7" W111 57' 46.7" (Right)

After ths weekends rain I would expect the washes to be more challenging along with new mud. We were in this area on Sunday playing in the rain and the big washes where REALLY going wild. After the run we could stop in Cave creek and get dinner at Harold's Corral. Should be a nice day run, good for stockers (sorry to you guys looking for the bigger challenges). From trail head to Cave Creek is about 40 miles so figure for 6-7 hours and bring lunch with you ON THE TRAIL.

Please respond to this thread to get an idea of how many we will have.

If those washes were as wild as you say, a call to the Ranger Station before hand might be in order. New River which is normally dry is also running. The Table Mesa trail crosses it in two places.

Beth and I won't be able to make this on a Sunday, but thanks for your okay for a Saturday run....

USGS flow monitoring station, Rock Springs - this is where the road makes it's first crossing of the river.

Google Map showing location of the monitor station

I would keep an eye on the flow for the next few days. It is currently at ~two feet, but reached as high as eight feet Sunday during the rains. If it looks like we're going to get as much rain as last week then this may not be a good trail to run.

And just for Russ, here is a map showing where Tip Top Mine is located. According to the information I've looked at on the web it is a pretty easy trail out to the mine, probably no worse than the 'moderate' trail you ran up in Sedona.

We're in! The water flows are all dropping fast, and it doesn't look like it will rain between now and Saturday - although it may rain on Sunday.

Oh yeah, I was looking at that on the map way back in June. I was trying to figure out if the best way was through Gillette from the east across the Agua Fria, or from Cow Creek Road from the south.

I don't think Tip Top is going to be viable for a while, the gage on the Agua Fria in that area is showing 6+ feet. Not knowing which crossing they are going to use I'm not sure if the flow spreads out enough to be shallow enough to cross. I am planning on doing the run Sunday, see you there.

Ditto if the Agua Fria is still running - I still haven't done the breather extension thing, so I'm hesitant to do any "real" water crossings. Let's stick to Table Mesa east.

FWIW I've never been checked. I always just print out the form and mail it in, it's way easier than trying to go down there and get it. Send in your app asap, you'll probably be fine.

Well folks I am out for this run. Something I ate last isn't agreeing with me and I'm just gonna stay near home. Be careful out there, I'm watching the Weather Channel and seeing rain already moving thru that area.
