Well after last night's chat, I think we may need to "bag" the truck idea, depending what everyone thinks. I did a quick Map quest and found out for me its little over 2000 miles, about 34 hours. I think I could drive that in two days (maybe). At around $2.50 a gallon of gas and 15 miles to the gallon, if I did my math right, a round trip would be $700 in gas, as compare to almost $1,500 to ship the KJ. Can't put a price on wear and tear however. I'll have around 85K on my Liberty by than.

All the cheapie hotels have been booked. The $100 a night ones are still available, and I think there is still room at the camp ground. I may just pull the pop-up out with me.

So if you think you may go, book now!!!

So if I amend my plans, I will be traveling Sat and Sunday 22 and 23 wheeling the 24, 25, 26, 27, and 28th, leave the 29. (Dates maybe a little off).

What do the rest of you brave souls think? Carrivan out? Truck and fly?
Don't bother with anyone else, each KJ for it's self?

Thoughts?

Al

Wow. Big price difference. If I were going I would drive it. I'd see places I would not otherwise see. But I am not going, so I guess what I say really doesn;t matter

Yeah, cheaper to drive. Make it a two day trip, especially if you have another person to do the driving duties. What I would like to do though, is get a small trailer and trailer the KJ. I`ll have to see when the time gets closer.

As for reservations, I just made mine yesterday at the campground. With the amount of people going, better to reserve now than at the last minute.

I have decided to drive to Moab. So now I am planning to leave early Friday 4/20, and get there mid day on Sunday 4/23 (I think those dates are correct) wheel till Friday, leave Saturday and hopefully get'r home sometime on following Monday. I would like to try to get a full week in with those boys from the left coast! Chris, you think us yankees are bad!

Any of you all going, think this a good schedule? If you do, maybe we can meet on the way out and convoy out.

I called the camp ground twice so far and left two messages, so hopefully I'm "in" but I am going to keep trying. I am planning to pull the pop-up out.

And I am getting ready for the trip, I have ordered a SYE kit from Tom Woods, so I can report on it (See his site and jeepinbyal.com), I am getting one of the first sets of HD CV joints from JE Reel, and they will be for sale on my site soon, I have the 4.10 gears at the garage, the gear installation kits are there also, I will be ordering new front carrier bearings for the front axels, and I am still looking into getting a 2005 Grand front diff. I won a Liberty front diff on e-bay, I just waiting to get it (its nice to have a spare). I will be bringing along a bunch or spare parts with me, so hopefully if we do break anything on the trail, I will have the parts available for us to use.

Al, it is good to have someone like you on board. I don't know how the West Coast goes could be any worse than a Yankee wait a min. didn't West By God VA go with the North...............(Dramatic Pause)................Well like they say were backwards anyway.  It would be great if we could get a small convoy together. I guess as it gets closer people will know if they are going are not. As for right now i'm with you Al.

So are you guys planning where you'll be stopping for the night during the drive out or are you just going to wing it?
