Sounds Good fellas. Should have my new meats by then too! Just ordered 245/70-16 Firestone Destination A/Ts and someone from the Terra club wants my stock tires. Score! :D

It was just being in the right place at the right time. Someone posted on the Terra forum that a friend wanted stock tires for thier daily driver Wrangler. I offered all 5 for $200 and bargained down to $175, including me delivering them to Crystal Lake. Mine have 5000 miles on them at this point, so they're preety much new. Works out to $35 per tire.

The Destination A/Ts are $84 a piece plus $70 shipping from Tire Rack, and Walmart mounts and balances for $10 A piece (Thanks to Don-FreeJeep for the Walmart suggestion!), So I'll be in for about $550 mounted, minus $175 = $375 out the door.

Having 2nd thoughts about leaving Friday night :?
Asked hotel and I guess they can cancel one night but I cannot cancel altogether. So, definetly I'm staying at BW.
I like the idea of joining the caravan on Sat morning. I'll wait and see what Bogdan is doing
I also got a good quote from "Just Tires" for the Dueler AT Revos 245/70-16. They will almost match the price from Tire Rack ($24.95 Difference)- the Manager will have to approve the deal, otherwise I'll order mine tomorrow from TR.
Shopping for a CB Radio too
Crap, looks like my pocket's got a huge hole!

KJ-BOL,

I would suggest spending your cash on a lift first. Stock tires and a lift will get you farther than new tires and no lift. Plus you can go a little bigger in tire size once your lifted.

Nope, I decided to buy it at Badlands and wing it. KJ-BOL went to buy one locally and the guy at the shop recommended buying at the badlands, as it was cheaper and should be easy enough to mount afterall.

I believe SunDvl did buy ahead and may have figured out his mount by now. Maybe he'll weigh in.

BTW, does this mean you're planning on attending for sure?

I did fabricate a bracket. It will do the job but didn't come out as pretty as I visualized in my head. I made it out of a 3 foot piece of 1/8" aluminum angle iron I picked up at Menards. I then cut slits every 2 1/2" through one side of the angle on one side of the piece (made 5 cuts). I then drilled two holes to match the top mounting bolts for the spare tire carrier (the ones that come out of the gate, behind the tire when it is mounted) on the other side of the piece. I proceeded to bend to the angle iron a little where I cut the slits to allow a wrap around effect and give some access to the rear glass. Using 2 more factory nuts I will mount the angle iron to the factory bolts of the tire carrier. I haven't decided if I want to try to paint the mount or use some undercoating on it.

I booked Red Roof Inn Lafayette. It's right down the road from the Best Western. With buying new tires, I wanted to save a bit. Red Roof Inn is half the price of Best Western. I'll hang out with everyone at BW until sleepy time and then meet back up at BW for breakfast Sunday.

Here's the route:

From Chicago: US 41 South to Attica. At first stop light, turn right onto Perry Street. Straight on Perry Street to 4 - way stop sign. Straight through stop sign, 1/2 mile to entrance on right side of the road.

Any yes, we are gonna caravan. We will probably meet somewhere close to Chicago off of the highway around 6 am. That way we can be in Attica by 9 at latest. More details to come.

Anyone with a sugesstion of a good mustering point, please speak up - especially Matt and Robert since you guys live in the city.

The first spot that comes to mind is the Addison exit. Right next to the expressway (east side) is a K-Mart with a huge parking lot that will be empty that early in the morning.

Ok guys....
This is just an idea...

GOING THRU THE CITY:
90-94 East to the Skyway
65 South to Rensselaer/Morocco exit - Rt 114
Make a Right at the ramp go West on RT 114.
Make a left at 41 go South
Once in Attica At first stop light, turn right onto Perry Street. Straight on Perry Street to 4 - way stop sign. Straight through stop sign, 1/2 mile to entrance on right side of the road.

GOING AROUND THE CITY:
294 South 80 East
65 South to Rensselaer/Morocco exit - Rt 114
Make a Right at the ramp go West on RT 114.
Make a left at 41 go South
Once in Attica At first stop light, turn right onto Perry Street. Straight on Perry Street to 4 - way stop sign. Straight through stop sign, 1/2 mile to entrance on right side of the road.

Meeting Points:
Thru the city:
Addison & Kennedy K-Mart assuggested by Sundvl
Skyway McDonalds

Around the City:
Irving Park 294 oasis
Hinsdale Oasis

After Chicago:
Merrilville, IN would be best
somewhere on RT 30

Either Route we take at early morning is ok.
Going directly on 41 south is slower - too many traffic signals

Notes:
Tolls on 294 - ?
Tolls on Skyway - $ 2.50 + $0.50 for Indiana + $0.15 for Indiana
70mph on 65 south
60 mph on 41
Best Place to stop for a break on 41
Kentland McDonalds or other at Kentland
Travel time: Approx - 3hrs

couple maps attached:

Since the majority of us don't live in the city, I vote we use the "around-the-city route and meet at the Irving Park Oasis.

I need to fix some vibes in my jeep or it is not going to be fun driving it on highway. Nedd a mechanic who will take his time w/o charging me $90 hourly like dealerships do. Any recomendations ?

VERY good advise - I think I just fell into this trap with bigger tires first, I need some elevation or the low hanging exhaust on the CRD is going to get ripped clear off.

Any advise to maintain the best street manners and still get a 2.5" lift?

You ever notice how it's always the guys that already have a lift and big tires that give this advice? I've never seen a post before this one where someone says they upgraded tires first and truly regretted it. I'm not even sure you have given yourself a real reason to regret it yet. I believe I read that you put 255s on already, which actually isn't recommended without a lift, correct?

In any case ... my rig is a DD more than an offroader, and I honestly think I could have gotten myself killed this winter with those Crapyear STs that came with my rig. They would break lose from a full stop in the rain for god's sake. I also don't wanna be driving around with a lift and ST tires. It just looks mickey mouse to me. I'd rather be driving around with nice a/t tires now and when I do lift, at least I have agressive tires already and to top it off, they are only an inch smaller in diameter than 265/70-16 anyhow, which is what it seems guys commonly run. I will retain my new Firestone A/T tires for onroad activities and get M/Ts on different rims once I lift. I won't have to worry about rubbing on a daily basis and I can have some really agressive mudders for offroad.

Just my 2 cents.
