I called the dealer and they said about $185 for this service.

Is that a normal price for draining some fluid and refilling it?

I don't think I can pay someone $185 for something so simple.

Wish I had a garage.
Or a friend with a garage.
Or a friend.

its not that hard or expensive.... its something you could do with out a garage.. when i changed the kk over to syn oil, it cost me like 70 or 80 bucks to buy the Royal purple and do my diffs, trans, ands t case.... just check out the kj forum section and you should be able to find out the procedures to do the job

yeah its easy. front is super easy( easy as changing oil) rear is a little harder since it doesnt have a drain plug. well i wouldnt say harder just takes longer.

The synthetic fluid for the front differential is probably the most expensive portion of this whole operation. Shoot - even a quick lube shop could do this for half that price and in far less time!

the dealer quoted me 130 per axle yesterday. I might pay him in monopoly money...

Here's what you need:
- Cardboard for laying on the ground
- Full syn fluids for front/rear (about 20-30) bucks depending on brands, etc
- basic mechanics tools (socket set with some hex keys make life easier on the front)
- $5 tube of black or orange RTV
- wire brush or wire wheel on a power drill
- couple cans of cleaner
- $10-15 in-bottle oil pump if you like staying clean.
- 1 hour of time and a clean/dry garage/carport
