Hello everyone! I would first like to introduce myself, my name is Rick I am a newbie to the site. I have been lurking around for the past few weeks until I finally got my user name approved. I got a 05' Red Rock Lib that I have a 3 inch lift on, a magnaflow exhaust and a KN FIPK CAI.

This past weekend my local stealership gave me a great deal (so I think) on the Mopar/Jeep factory remote start system. It took me 5 or so hours on Saturday to put it in with a couple of "beverage brakes". It was a pretty smooth install just took some time to route and solder all of the wires. Hopefully later I will get a chance to do a write up of the install as I took pictures as the process went along.

After I got it all installed it was time to program the unit. I followed the instructions to program the fobs and to set the tach and rpm. This was also pretty straight forward.
I tested the system and it appeared to work as it should, you hit the start button twice and it fires up, you hold in the start button and it shuts off. The hood switch works and the brake pedal shuts the system off.

Here is where my problem comes into play. Today by accident I hit the remote start button while fiddling around in my pocket (nothing happened since it requires you hit the button twice to start the vehicle). About two hours later I went to use the remote start and hit the start button twice. After hitting the button twice my horn sounded three times and the lights flashed several times and then nothing happened.
I waited a few minutes and tried again, I hit the start button twice and immediately after the horn again chirped and the lights flashed and the engine did not start. Frustrated, I just walked down to my jeep and started it with my key. After returning from running around town I tired the remote start again and it started up no problem.
I then shut it off and pressed the start button three times (to simulate an accidental push of the fob) and it acted as it did before with not starting.

Needless to say I thought that there is something wrong, there should be some way to start the vehicle if you accidentally push the button more than twice. So I called the dealership and they did not know anything and gave me mopars support line. I called mopar and gave them the same explanation as above. The Mopar tech rep was rude and said that it is a safety feature of the system and that is what it is supposed to do, and the only way to clear it is to start the car with your key to re-set it.

To me this seems a little farfetched, there has to be a way to cancel or re-set the system without physically walking down and starting it.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME?
Sorry for the long first post, just very frustrating
 :?:

I checked the owner’s manual, and the trouble shooting manual for the remote start itself and did not find much. The only thing that I found remotely related was there is a mode that you can put the remote start in for when you take it to be serviced that basically turns off remote start system. It states that the horn will beep and the lights will blink when trying to start the vehicle.

So I thought that possibly I got it into this mode somehow and re-set the remote start system and tried to re-program everything with no luck.
I might try and call mopar again tomorrow; maybe I will get lucky and get a tech that is actually willing to help.

Thanks for the welcome!

Interesting. We were in the dealership last weekend looking at the '08s and the sales guy was going to take us out in one of the Limiteds. He went to show off the remote start but other than the horn chirp and the lights flashing once or twice it didn't work. When I started it with the key in the ignition it started with no problems. I didn't think to try it again after we'd stopped.

I don't remember reading anything about having to reset it by using the key in the ignition but I'll bet that was the problem. I'll have to keep that in mind.

Anyone with an '08 able to confirm or reject this assumption?

It's probably in the software coding of the system to prevent false starts. You could try to disable it if you had a code reader hooked into the service port but other than that, I am not of any help.

I won’t have access to a code reader until the weekend, but thanks for the tip I will try that. At this point I am open for any suggestions.

And you are probably correct; the system is more than likely just trying to prevent from false starts or is in some goofy mode. But I still think that there should be an easy way (not walking down to the vehicle and cycling the ignition with the actual key) to re-set the remote start function.
I have tried different combinations with the remote fob such as holding it down, pressing it only once, and various other things with the same result just a chirping horn and the lights flashing.

Maybe that new 08 limited is doing the same thing mine is. I bet after you started it with the key the remote start would have worked.

Just frustrating.
