i have a rack, but i like the idea of it on the rear. i cant see it weighing more than the spare. i think with the tire in the roof rack and this idea on the rear, it would look good. i dont know, just something i was thinking of.
oh yeah drop the spare and I would say you are good for 75# max
remember that the spare does not move but your cargo in that rack may
which will put a lot more stress on the rear gate
Take the rack on the TJ we use it to carry a small ice chest with drinks and lunch for 2-4 people in it and a 2 gallon water cooler ,some times on work days we carry a trash bag on it that is about it and some how my gate still bent
you start carrying things like a gas can with 5 gallons of gas you got 30# right there
and how often do you need spare gas? I have seen it once and that was on a rig that should not have been on the trail we were on and he ripped off a fuel line and when some one else noticed he had lost about 6+ gallons
he was trying to get it restarted
I just know that I have seen more flats and broken dana 35's then any thing
I have seen U-joints and break lines
now I could really see the need for say a high lift mount
If I were to do it I would get a mount to hold a high lift jack worked out and a CB whip
