Hmm a Dakar CRD Liberty wouldn't that be sweet. Anyone looking for a team member for Dakar next year I will go if you pay the way.

I'd rather run it in a JK, easyer to setup for the run.

The VW Taureg's that are set to run the race are using a version of the 3.0 Bluetec diesel found in the Grand Cherokee. Too bad the last Dakar was canceled due to terrorist threats...

Sorry guys but these 'things' have nothing to do with the metal ones you see on the road. The just call them like the production models for promocional reasons.

These are all tubeframed specialy build polyester body dune buggies.

Doing Dakar in a stock KJ or KK now that would be an achievement!

Bluetec? Why use a MB engine when they have great TDI engines of their own, BlueMotion.

Several upcoming VW vehicles will be using the bluetec, including the touarag.

Bluetec refers the urea-based emissions control technology itself. VW will use the technology, but it's still a VW TDI engine.

The 3.0 in question was developed jointly by Mercedes and VW (both the emissions systems and the engine itself).

Cool. The V6 TDI Touareg may be our next vehicle. :) I think it has a 7800lb tow rating...

Forget about taking that thing ofroad dude....you'll need to keep your KJ to pull you out of ..ah mostly anything worse then your front lawn.

Back on topic: VW is also developing an engine that runs on gas AND diesel. It will use diesel at low revs to get more torque and gas at high revs to get more HP....sounds good.

Sounds like another engineering disaster from VW to me.

Again it is called BlueMotion not Bluetec, it is copy righted by MB.

Quote from VW UK:

Our BlueMotion technology will be rolled out in a fresh line-up of models across the range. The first to follow Polo will be the BlueMotion Golf.

Our legendary Golf hatchback will be wearing Volkswagen’s environmental badge of honour from early next year, The Golf BlueMotion is likely to return 62.8 mpg on the combined cycle and achieve 119g/km CO2 emissions.

These will be followed by BlueMotion Golf Plus, BlueMotion Golf Estate, BlueMotion Jetta, BlueMotion Passat, BlueMotion Passat Estate and BlueMotion Touran, meaning there is a BlueMotion model on nearly everyone of the Volkswagen models.
Our exciting BlueMotion technology has already proved its worth by making our BlueMotion Polo one of the most efficient cars of its class.

The BlueMotion sustainability initiative represents "Blue" - the Volkswagen colour - symbolising the elements water and air. "Motion" embodies the aspect of a mobility oriented forward, towards the future. The goal is to protect the resources of the earth for future generations.
