Wife and I are looking at a used Baja. Seller has a weight distributing hitch that he would let go for a little more cash. I wouldn't think that I would need one to tow a Baja but would like some input in case I'm wrong. I won't be putting a quad or motorcycle on the front. The front will be used for coolers, etc.

Get the hitch. I didn't think I'd need one for my 19 FT Jayco hybrid but it swayed so bad without it I end up buying a 1/2 truck just to town the RV. On top of that I was afraid to tow ANYTHING because of the POS torque converter in the CRD. Good luck.

I looks like the Baja weighs about 1000# less than my Funfinder. I pull mine with thte factory hitch with no probs. It gets squirrely at 75, but 70MPH is rock solid. I am sure it will eventually tear up the torque converter, but it did fine on 3 long trips this past fall. Get it and have fun.

I just got back from a ski/winter RVing trip into our beloved Rockies. We tow a 21 foot Trail Cruiser loaded with gear, water (36 gallooons), extra propane, 5 galloons of extra diesel, tons of food, beer, and kid toys. Must weigh 5000 lbs easy and the Jeeplet pulls it no troubles. I have the standard Reese WD hitch and a friction sway control. I recommend a friction sway control at the very least, it will keep the trailer nice and tigth behind you even during big truck passes.

Oh, the beast gets 15 - 18 MPG into the wind (60 mph) at 60 mph. Pretty impressive.

On the weight distributing hitch. The owner’s manual says for 300 pounds or more tongue weight one is required  The biggest cause of sway is inadequate tongue weight  Generally recommended is 10% of the trailers weight on the hitch. A sway bar is a good idea but will mask the cause of it. My 17' Casita is between 3000 and 3500 pounds and I have both a WDH and sway bar. I get a smooth steady ride with not inclination to sway :D
