I am at work now and cannot remember the code# but it was something like "MAF circuit input low" the same one I always get when the MAF is unplugged.

Ok...they replaced the EGR for free. Now I have a little harder time starting her when cold...not always. Again I live in FL so when I mean cold..I mean it hit 55 degrees overnight. Did the dealer cleaan out my system when they replaced the EGR or do they just slap a new one in there and close the hood? What is the benefit of disconnecting the EGR and how does that differ from SEGR? I have a SP 90hp box and I get 30+mpg in economy mode(where I keep it 95%) so I do not think anything else should be funky. I also need new tires and am worried about that being many say it can effect your MPG. I would like a tad larger 235/245/70 but will that shave a few mpg as well? The decisions on these CRD's is unreal. My TDI would get 45-48mpg nomatter what I did to it or ran in the tank.

To answer the question, the SEGR will keep the check engine light off. If you simply disconnect the EGR, you will have a check engine light on all the time, and you will not know if you have trouble elsewhere. Also, the SEGR will also keep the FCV active to enable the smooth shutdown of the engine. The SEGR will improve your mileage. Most report gains of about 2 mpg.

What happens if the soot supply line for the EGR gets blocked?

Your flow control valve will still open, restricting the intake. The mismatch in flow may or may not set the CEL, but you will not realize as much a mileage increase as simply pulling the MAF.

Has the dealership ever told you why the EGR is not lasting?

Ok what does pulling the MAF do and how do I do it? I am not worried about a CEL. My main concern is good MPG and not having a soot problem internally like my Jetta got. No the dealer does not know why they are failing but heck they paid for it so I am not gonna biotch....until next time.

If they are honest, they would tell you the EGR fails because of the soot and crud being sent
back thru the engine by: 1 The EGR valve letting it into the intake and 2 the CCV puck which
is the worst for the slimy oily bypass that is being injected into the system IN FRONT OF THE
TURBO, and passing all the crap thru the turbo, hoses, intercooler, etc.

I will send you some links in a moment to look at.
Steve
