Oh wow... too many used crd's out there to tow @ 9mpg... I think i'd be checking out autotrader.com.

I hear you there! I am not sure I even knew the CRD existed when I bought this one, and I got a great deal on it coming off a lease at the company I work for.

I just looked now, and of 77 2005 Libertys (my model year) in Ontario on autotrader.ca, there are NO CRDs. Not one.

3 2006's out of 88, listing from $10,000 to $17,000 CDN more than I paid for mine a year ago.

Much as I'd like one I just can't swallow paying double!

Maybe they are not as common in Canada?

Nice looking trailer, when we watched the Tour Day France (Bob Roll enunciation) I noticed all the campers parked along the bike route but didn't notice the wheel base until you mentioned it. It makes you wonder why US made campers haven't centered the axles. It is easier to back up a trailer the further back the axles are, maybe thats why.

As you can see from the pic below UK trailers have the axles pretty central.

The above unit has a maximum weight just above 4000lbs and a tongue weight of 220lbs. Cost is around £19000 ($38000 US.)

UK roads are too small for big tow cars so the heavy compact KJ with high torque is ideal and is why it's so popular over here.

Cheers

Certainly more common over here. Just checked UK's Autotrader, 332 kj's for sale, 61 Petrol/Gas and 271 Diesel.

In the last year or so the 3.7V6 has been that slow a seller that Jeep UK decided to drop it from the kj line up.
Just shows how different the market is.

The back up comment is certainly true, having axles in the middle makes it tricky especially on single axle trailers.

Many owners fit motor movers that allow you to unhitch the trailer and drive it under it's own electric power with a remote control. I have one fitted to mine, when I pull up to my house I unhitch it from the kj and drive it off the road onto the driveway with the remote.

Have a look Here

Since everyone is showing theirs... Here's what I have been dragging around. Ran it across the scales just for fun, and with a full belly, it's tipping them at 6940 lbs! That means with the 4500 that the KJ is... That little 4-banger is moving over 11,000 lbs down the road at 65-70mph! What a strong little beastie, the scangauge wasn't even showing more than a couple degrees of water increase, like the engine was barely working at all. Of course the turbo was buzzing along at 20-22 lbs of boost almost full time (yes I let it idle to cool down) and still managed 18mpg with that brick on the back. 8)

BTW: making a pintle hook hitch fit with the spare on there... Not fun.

Nice toy, I want one.

From the rear end squat, I think you too should look at the AirLift rear helper springs. They fit right inside the rear coils and bring the back end up no problem. Also looks like your're running with a humongous tongue weight too. The stock tires won't last long at those weights, think about load range E's - Especially if you don't carry your spare.

hehehehehhehehehe Those ARE Load Range E tires. 8) BF Goodrich Commercial T/A M+S 215/85/16 and those are the only shots where the tires look like they are doing any work is when that little brick is hooked to the back. They were sitting there with 80psi in them too. Factory Badyear Wrangler spare was inside the Jeep at that point, along with the tow chain I used to pull out a mostly-fully-loaded 10k gvwr box truck that had gotten stuck in the mud... Thats why the tires are so filthy - Thats how deep in the mud the Genset was too, before the truck got stuck!

(Thankfully I got the genset out to pavement and was able to go back and pull out the truck after unhitching)

Well now I see what people are towing, the genset was a tiny bit off topic... haha , but nice to know if I overload, it's not a big deal. I think that we will settle on something between the 16-20 foot range. We'd like a self contained unit, I do like the airstreams, and they are a little high, but I can fix stuff, so finding a used one will be an option. Thank you all for your responses!!

And one in the river Just for funsies.

Check out the Caita 17' models. Our Spirit Deluxe is self contained. They are made in Ricd Texas so finding a used one shouldn't be a problem  They are fiberglass and shaped like a Airstreams but
