Me and a couple of friends are doing the Sunflower Mine Run on Saturday, March 8. The plan is to camp the Friday night before and then head out at 9 a.m. toward the Sunflower Mine.

We will meet along Four Peaks Rd on Friday around 7 p.m. to camp (N33* 40.000 W111* 28.4533). Then the next day do the run.

This trail rated as a difficult trail in the Wells book (Train 43) as it should take about 4 hours to do this 13 mile section. From what I have heard there is a cut-off part for those that do not want to the difficult section. I have found a few photos from this trail and it looks amazing. Let me know if anyone is interested in going to the trail run and/or camping the night before.

Check out some photos from SoazTim and from Mark D Stephens websites...just as teasers :)

You will have fun! It's a great trail. See my post:

http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=27621

08K ran it the day before we did. The only real hard part is the stream bed / rock garden after the mine and before you head up the mountain.

Plan on touching every inch of the bottom of your jeep. :D

I don't think this trail is doable in a stock height KJ. Any objections to a TJ tagging along?

If it's okay with csamano, who is putting this run together, that we'll be in a TJ, then count us in....

The more the merrier, we have a Land Rover Defender is also coming along so it's not just KJ's, just a fun off-roading trip. See you there.

Hey guys, just wanted to send a quick update...since we didnt have any takers for the camping section we will only be doing the SunFlower trail on Saturday without the camping part on Friday (this should make it a lot easier actually..) So, it makes more sense if we meet right off the beeline hwy and service road NF143...the coordinates are 33° 40.688'N 111° 30.142'W. Here is a link for google maps for this location: link http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=33%C2%B0+40.688'N+111%C2%B0+30.142'W&ie=UTF8&ll=33.678068,-111.501017&spn=0.008375,0.014462&t=h&z=16&iwloc=addr

I will be in my blue Libby and there will also be a white Land Rover Defender. I will have my radio set to channel 4-1 so if you have any questions just give me a quick call on the radio. The plan is to meet there at 8:30 to depart at 9:00 a.m. so be there with your car fueled and stomach full.

See you guys there this Saturday!

Still thinking I might drive up sat morning. Will this trail be overly difficult for one without skids? I have rock rails, just no skids...

I don't recommend it without skids. You only need them in one area, but it's rough. There'd have to be some good spotting to get you through unscathed.

Well I hope all went well. I ended up working today til about 4 and then decided it was a good time to change the oil, air filter, rear shocks to new ones, and pretty much clean out the Jeep. It was a very productive evening....
