Trade In

went to trade in the CRD yesterday and the Jeep Dealer said they were "scared of the CRD"? WTF. Now that says alot about Jeep that they do not even want to trade for one of ther own vehicles. :evil:

Sounds like a tactic to reduce trade in value...

When I was having some much trouble with mine, they told
me the same thing. Head man says every CRD he has had,had
to send to the auction cause he couldn't sell them off the lot.
Anyhow, glad I keep it now.

why??? because a dealer doesn't want a used CRD? the dealer has that right.

You'd be crazy for trading it in anyway. Sell it yourself using the Internet, and you'll find someone that appreciates the vehicle for what it is.

My thought was in the first year, I was spending too much
time at the dealership for repairs. They wanted 7425 difference
in trade but I still have 2 to 3 K in tow bar hookups and aux brake
hookups that need to be made to a different vehcle.
Anyhow, glad I kept it, I love it and no mo problems lately

Nothing really wrong with mine. I just drive 660 miles one way to work and want something better on MPG. Jeep dealer offered me 8k and said they really did not want it. Ford dealer had a slip of paper that they value trade in's and had written in big letters "YES it's a Diesel Get it if you can" So the surch goes on. Wish I could afford to keep it and buy a civic but money is tight.

Yeah, they go for a pretty penny up here. That said, prices have slipped a bit from where they were a few months ago, so depreciation is setting in. I can still get significantly more than I owe however, just not as much as I paid anymore...

I'm glad to hear that the dealers are poo pooing them. It means that when I want another one I can get one cheap. I am sorry for you though KJmedic, but I would never let the dealer give me trade in value anyway. You will get a MUCH better price if you go private party.

If you are buying......"that ain't worth much. They don't make them any more and nobody wants them. The most I can give you on a trade is...........etc etc etc"

But if they are selling one to you.........."those CRD"s are awesome. Hard to come by. Great mpg.......I just happen to have one we just got in and it is a cream puffff........it won't stay on the lot more than a couple of days.............." yada....yada.....yada......

Sounds like the same old dealer crap. I used to hear the same stuff on diesels before and I blew them off. Screw the dealer and sell it out right if you must, sell. Craig's list it can be advertised for free. Diesels are for a specific market and class of people willing to pay for them. The only diesel I ever traded in was a 73 Chevy C30 with a Perkins 354 Turbo diesel. I got $4250 for it on trade for my Liberty CRD a year ago.
If you want to buy a Civic, pick one up that looks like the one in the,"Free Credit Report.com" TV commercial and trade it in for the newer Honda Civic.

As far as the required Mods and recalls go, most of us are smarter than the Bean Counters who put the thumb screws to the Jeep Engineers who want to do things right

I just got an appraisal on mine - kind of a spur of the moment thing. The Yota dealership offered me 13k - I told them no way.

My CRD is in excellent shape - clean, and has 35k. Heck with 'em all - I'm keeping it!

Dealers are dealers... they make money from the deal. Some use intimidation tactics, others use fast talk reasoning, but they all position for a bargain. Some are honest and gracious (they should be applauded) and some are downright insulting with their blatant disregard for customers (they are lazy and repugnant, and should be treated with the distain they deserve).

Years ago I brought back a prized sports car from Britain - the first TVR 280i built for the US market as they reintroduced it into the US in 1984. It was gorgeous and in near perfect shape after 4 years since it was my second car --only 9000 miles. I decided it was time to sell it as I wasn't driving it much and wanted something else. In looking for a new car I checked what the trade-in was on it. The Honda dealer in Tysons Corner Virginia looked at it, looked at me (in my 20s), and proceeded to tell me how hard this would be to move and made an offer of $8000 -- this was a $30,000 vehicle! I was born during the day, but not yesterday :lol:

... so I advertised it in a national magazine. Within a week, a fellow flew from the west coast, bought the car for only $3000 less than I paid for it, and he shipped it back to Oregon. He felt it was a bargain.

The moral of the story here is that our CRDs are marketable to those who want an American built, small to medium SUV with a diesel for towing or the flexibility of bio-fuels. This is not a small group -- more than the 11,000 units that were built.

Since Jeep has not been forthright with CRD customers, the market value is declining -- the dealers only see what they want and in this case, the relative frequency of CRD owners looking to trade their prized vehicle for another indicates a feeding frenzy for sales folks

. The bottom line is that the trade-in price is dominated by the blue/black books. Don't look like a victim when you approach a sales guy and he won't treat you as such.

To be fair, the market value of all diesel vehicles takes a plunge when diesel gets inverted. Richard and Jane Average do not want to pay $3.50 for diesel as opposed to 3.00 for RUG. So they are not going to buy a diesel during a price inversion. When the price goes back to being equal with RUG-- then the value of diesels will go back up. If D2 goes back to being much cheaper than RUG-- expect the resale value to spike.

People are funny. They will trade in a $40,000 dollar SUV they bought four months ago because gas hit $3.00-- and they can't afford it. They take a massive hit on the depreciation, and end up in a little car they don't like. Then one year later, the price falls back to 2:00 a gallon and they are sick of the little car, so they trade in the econobox they bought, take another massive hit in depreciation, and buy another big SUV. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Too many people are buying automobiles motivated by either fear-- or trying to keep up with the Jones'.

Pablo......that is very well said and true. And you can buy many many gallons of gas/diesel with that lost depreciation money.

thats why i dont care about the gas prices anymore, just another expense to have fun. If people can afford to buy expensive vehicles, then they can afford the gas, they just dont want to is all.
