My wife and I are on vacation and I've noticed that the transmission dipstick is popping out of the holder. I'm guessing it's a vent/pressure issue but if anyone else has insight I'd appreciate it.

I have the same problem. I think the stick is just too long, since it pops up even when it is not running. I have wire tied mine down.

Some have put a slight bend in the stick to hold it in place.

i think the tranny dipstick has a tendency to pop if the breather hose is blocked as well (as it becomes a secondary vent for excess pressure). It's worth a check to ensure that you don't have crud or bacteria in there blocking the line.

I found mine was rubbing against the firewall and popping out. Check that. Had to bend the tube a bit.

It is too long and hits the tranny pan. Some have cut it down, some have put a kink in it, and others have pulled the edge of the engine cover up onto it to hold it in.

The tranny dipstick working it's way out has nothing to do with pressure or being too long. It's the dipstick itself and vibrations. Go to the dealer and have them replace it with a new one. Should feel alot tighter upon full insertion.
I guess if you bend the stick this will also increase the retention.
Not pressure=once the cap handle is free and pressure can be relieved, it continues to back out(up).
Not stick too long=will continue to back out until it hits the hood or the sky.
I went through this whole ordeal awile back. Installed new dipstick, no more problems. Maybe a tighter design.

I can hear and feel when the dipstick hits the transmission pan. Last time I had the pan off I checked, and you could see the mark where it touched it. A lot of people have noticed this.

OK, then I guess the 06s may be different than the 05s.
Do you think the dipstick is too long by at least 12"?
Mine backed out that far and if I where to take the hood off, it probably would have kept going till it fell out of the engine.
Just my experience. But I'm lucky like that. Me and Murphy don't get along too well.

Sure, it will keep vibrating upwards once it pops loose. My Jeep's is only about 1" too long.

When I had the problem with mine coming out that far it turned into needing an F37 the pump failed and it was pressure forcing it out and it actually completely covered the engine in ATF

Ours would blow out, up against the hood on any trip - turned out the horizontally-mounted case breather-cap, designed for vertical-installation only, was plugged with dirt\silt - cleaned and "T"'ed it into the xfer case breather tube to cure that - after that, the 'stick performed it's usual designed-in moves, up and part way out after several trips - having just Suncoasted and Trans-go'ed the little mule, and RTV'ed the pan, I tywrapped the dip-stick in-place - it will be un-ty'ed upon sign of seepage past the excellent RTV pan-seal - just hope the tension on the 'stick tip against the pan doesn't machine a hole in the pan - been considering pulling the pan to install a dimple in that area.............
