Jeep4me99 that pic of the driveshaft you are going to buy shows that the rear CV boot is present on the shaft,it it is not torn you can't tell since it's only a side shot. The CV boot is not like the front CV boot,it's part of the joint itself.

well i was stinking my finger in something...and it wasn't lubricated, so thats the problem..wonder how the heck that happened.

oh and found the torque specs for the driveshaft bolts incase anyone has to change it out too....22 ft lbs, 30 Nm

yayyyyy...now more laying on the cold garage floor! :?

hmmmmmm, now i wonder if this is whats really causing that huge clunk noise...seems weird for a drive shaft to cause something like that.

Could have sworn I posted this an hour or so ago, but it isn't showing so here we go again...

This is a comparison I made when I had to change mine out. The rear boot had torn and let a lot of dirt/water/crud inside which just tore the CV joint up.

When you get your replacement be sure to check that all the rubber is in good condition - I had to take one back because it had a small hole in the front accordion boot but the next one I got was fine. Luckily the place I got both of them was just a few miles away.

well theres your problem.

Thanks for the description tjkj. I wasnt looking at it THAT closely. :)

Ill try to add that to the list of things to spray with silicone spray. Maybe it will keep it from cracking and such.

I have the same problem, boot was complete torn and gone, grease was slung in a nice circle along the transfer case, underside on the jeep floor and crossmember. Called the dealer and asked if it was covered under 7/70 and they said yes, just have to pay $100 deductable. They are also going try and find the leak in the tranny and service it while they are there.

Thats one thing they cannot deny under warranty. Nothing we can do will effect that part so they cant blame it on a lift!

Guess they could say we got it muddy but Ill never have to worry about that. 8)

"Thats one thing they cannot deny under warranty. Nothing we can do will effect that part so they cant blame it on a lift!"

My dealer denied my claim on the front driveshaft. They said the drivetrain warranty only covers internally lubricated parts. Anytime I took my Jeep to the dealer for anything they gave me some lame excuse, then they have the nerve to talk about the extended warranty. UTAH DEALERS ARE WORTHLESS, especially  LARRY MILLER

So changed the front drive shaft....that didn't solve the clunk issue

My new thoughts are that it is either coming from the a-arms. gonna check the torque setting on the upper a-arm bolts. They are supposed to be 90 ft lbs, i just tightened them down as much as i could.

Or it could be from the CVs, they are probably maxed out in their angles and the shaft is hitting the cup....

I hope its the a-arms

If its neither...i have no clue what the clunk is....but its probably not cheap to fix.

If you didn't get slapped, I don't see a problem

Jeep4Me, if the clunk is when you hit something...check your swaybar endlinks for play. Is the clunk while in motion, or can you bounce the front end and replicate it?
