I think some here with CRDs would and did complain about acceleration from a dead stop also. Of course we solved it with the MAF Disco/SEGR. I would bet that the EGR adding dirty mix to the cyclinders to control NOx causes the same problems with the GC Diesel.

I am not sure but I bet the Mercedes R320 CDi 4Matic (5092# heavy) with the same diesel weights less than the GC...but not sure. 7-speed auto that has to learn your driving pattern might have affected the test.

I know that MPG ect got better with some break in mileage in my CRD...but not astronomically by any means. Mercedes is rated 18city/21combined/24hwy...Jeep Liberty CRD is 19/21/23 (maybe aerodynamics plays a role here...but we know we get better than 23 highway anyway)

This article makes my Liberty CRD fell better and better...especially PRICE WISE!!!

Every reviewer of a diesel vehicle always nags on the turbo lag. You just have to think of it as foreplay to the big event.

Personally I like the turbo delay, and by just changing your driving expectations/habits its no longer a problem.

Well the one thing I do agree with the article about is the price, even on the Laredo it requires the upgraded premium package, which just adds a ton of crap I have no interest in(Boston Acoustics sound? No thanks, I have my own Alpine stereo). If it was an option on the base package I'd have a lot of difficulty not pulling the trigger already...

Yup, they wised up some by putting it in the laredo, but they dumbed down in another way, they made a 2wd option. ugh

I was overjoyed to no end when I found out no KJ CRDs would be sold without 4wd.

Without 4WD FullTime in the rain...Traction Control would be keeping me at a standstill...with all that torque it is a must for me.

I think they paid so much to Mercedes for the "Diesel" they have to put it in a premium priced package.

I read that Ford pays Navistar $7200 for each Power Stroke they buy

Two weeks ago I went to a local Jeep Dealer in Northern Virgina, who had one new 07 GC Diesel left ($44,000 sticker). I asked him what he would I could get for a trade for my Liberty CRD with 31,000 miles.

His first price on Thursday was my trade was $23,000 and my CRD.

By Sat is was $20,000 and my CRD.

Even through the price seemed okay I did not do it for 4 reasons.

1. Everything that I can find on the web said the GC Diesel did not get great mileage. In fact the Mercedes with the same engine got 4 to 6 more mpg.

2. My Liberty CRD is running great - I am averaging about 26 mpg.

3. The VM diesel on the Liberty is probably a lot easier to maintain then a BlueTec. In fact every once in a while I use farm diesel. I also plan to find to use biodiesel if I can find it.

4. The number of Diesel GC vechicles on the road is very small and Jeep will probably give them even less support the the Liberty CRD. At least there are solutions on this site to fix problems. I also noticed that dealers are not ordering and new 08 GC diesels for inventory. They obviously have not sold too well.

Hopefully some day Jeep will come out with a diesel in the US that gets good mileage, is easy to maintain and at a reasonable price point. Plan to keep my Liberty CRD until then

Mercedes R320 CDi is rated at 18/21/24 (city/combined/highway)

Cherokee Diesel is 17/?/22

Liberty CRD is 19/21/23

I like my Hybrid Combo:

2006 Jeep Liberty CRD/2008 Lambretta DUE 50cc...34.91 city ;-)

While thats nice to know most of us in the US dont care what the cherokee made for gas mileage, but it would be interesting to see what the Grand Cherokee's numbers are.
