Got the Lib' down to a garage today, explained the shifting problem and they said they would give it a look see. Got a call 2 hours later and they said they tried everything to get it to shift and no go. Used T-case and install.... $1600! New t-case is $3K and their are no rebuilt ones to be found. Rebuilding the old one would probably cost just as much as the used replacement. They were going to credit me the core charge on the old one, but I told them I'll take the old one and rebuild it myself.
I know that other than the shifting problem, their is nothing wrong with the old t-case. I'm so pissed about this whole thing!!

WOW

You got taken,$3000 for a new t-case? Where are they getting there prices from.$1600 for a used one installed is high.

Straight off of Wychoff web site for a '03 t-case,brand new,no core charge..........

NV231 MSRP-$1020.00 Your price-$762.50
NP242 MSRP-$1075.00 Your price-$805.00

You could buy a AtlasII t-case and new driveshafts for there cost of a stock t-case.

The dealship will mark up prices on parts, and then you have to deal with their labor prices. Try taking it to an independent transmission shop for a 2 nd. opinion.

Not sure on this but any NV231/242 out of a GC/Wrangler should work. Go to your local junkyard and find one or look on ebay/ or craigslist.

Is that CDN or US dollars. Eitherway...they are trying to give it to you in the backside. I would print off prices of t-cases fromt the net and bring them in to show them how overpriced they are. If they don't want to lower the price, go somewhere else!

Actually it's more expensive in American dollars than Canadian.

Not really, Canadians are still paying more for stuff than we do.

$3,000 is RIDICULOUS. You can pick up a used Rubicon 4:1 241 for a grand easily, less than that if you shop around...there's no reason for a used dime-a-dozen 231 to cost more than that.

New front driveshaft to boot. $2100 by day's end (Changed the rear u-joints too). This was not the dealership by the way. I don't know what you guys pay for labour rates down their, but when you need it done, you need it done now.

Got a good point there. Labor rates really vary depending on where you are.
