Jeep will end up pulling out of UK ,after yesterdays budget i can forsee it. In yesterdays budget they announced that gas guzzlers are too pay £950 pounds a year road tax that nearly $2000 plus more fuel taxes and we are already taxed at 80% on fuel. Im going out now to drive over some lentil munching tree huggers.

yep even the diesels are in the highest emissions bracket.I'm hoping this massive rise is just for people buying new vehicles and not for people who already own their cars.update yeah its only for cars registered after march 2007 it's gone up an extra £100 to £385 but will go to £925 eventually .phew relief.

how could the gassers not be considered gas guzzlers...........mine gets horrable gass milage and from what I gather from the LOST site over the last couple of years , I'm not the only one who's gas milage is crap. that is a lot of tax too....

It weighs over 4,000#'s, is shaped like a brick, and has larger than average tires. They weigh about what an old Grand Wagoneer weighs and have more horsepower. What kind of mileage would one expect out of a KJ?

Some of the earlier threads - the gassers are so bad & gas so high - they don't sell many, if any over there.

I personally dont believe my Kj is a gas guzzler.

Suburbans, Hoes, Hemi rams, hemi Jeeps(anything with hemi), SRT Vehicles, they ARE gas guzzlers.

gas guzler? No way! Have you seen what the Beemers Mercedes VW's, and Volvos get? They are about the same...

I do not forsee them completely pulling out, I mean they do have the Compass and Patriot now to help the cheaper buyers that wont pay the tax... then they could keep a couple models for the hard cores. Limiting themselves to three or four models could definately help...

and from that list I could easily see them dropping the wrangler as I have never seen any of the new wranglers on the roads over here in Germany unless they were US owned.

Sure, I think my CRD gets great mileage, but compare that to my wife's A4 (which might be comparable to your typical affluent family car in the UK performance and economy-wise) and it's a pig.

Unless it's classified as a truck (i.e. not a passenger vehicle), then most ALL SUVs would be gas guzzlers in europe.

I drive aggressively, and usually get from 16.X MPG to 18.X MPG, depending on the freeway/surface street mix. Pure highway will get me in the low 20's. This is with a 210hp 225 V6 with the 6-speed & 3.55 gears.

For comparison, my '79 FSJ Cherokee weighs about the same, has a 360 V8 with a 2-bbl that only makes about 180 HP, a 4-spd stick, 3.54 gears, and gets from 8 MPG-10 MPG.

No, the KJ does not compare to the RAV4, CRV, VUE, or others in this segment for MPG. But then again, I have asked literally dozens of owners of these vehicles to go off-road with me, and I have yet to have anyone accept. I guess that is the trade-off that I accepted when I chose the KJ over the others.

Exactly, InCommando. If I wanted a fuel sipper, I would've bought a Celica GT-S, late model Prelude, Rustang GT or something along those lines. I wanted something that could go off road and drag big trailers and run over small cars.

That being said...I have been keeping an eye on craigslist for a 91-96 Beretta GT in decent shape with a stick for a daily driver.

Incommando, that simply could not have been said any better. Well done....

btw, I think a suburban can actually do o.k. on the highway. With the throttle body injection, if you hit the sweet spot, you could probably get 18mpg highway (I heard this from a car show radio host last Saturday...).

They are trying to force us into shoebox sized cars that do 55-65mpg over here ,it's all measured on emissions rather than what your getting to the gallon and the gassers and crd's are up amongst the worst offenders allegedley.All this when today it was announced that china is producing 3 times the amount of pollution than they are admitting too, our goverment sucks . I doubt chrysler will sell many vehicles over here if annual vehicle tax is close to $2000

Jimmy it's a European thing, Spain same crap and in Holland too.

It's unbelievable: It has NOTHING to do with emision, its jet another media hype. Like 'everybody' knows Pitbulls are man eating maniacs, 'everybody' (that's including EURO Parlament!) now thinks that 'BIG CAR' stands for much polution. (In every article in the newspaper pic of a Hummer H2. Yeah, and we all drive those.)

So they slam an extra tax on them, so they are more expensive. Hoping people won't buy them. Or something.

What if I buy a Bugatti Veyron? Or a Mercedes SLR...or let's say (not so exclusive) a Subaru WRX...or Mitsubishi Lancer EVO.

THEY USE MORE GAS THEN MY KJ YOU IDOTS!

Sorry for shouting, but I am so fed up with the stupid things they came up with lately.

Ow, my KJ doesn't use any gas...it's a Diesel :D

They either have an ulterior motive are they do not understand the law of diminshing returns.

At least in this country, cars are already at least 90% "cleaner" than they were 30 years ago. But they still want to spend billions to make improvements that will result in miniscule changes in the emmissions. Reducing a 1970 car from what it put out, 100%, to what they make today, 10% (in most cases much less), resulted in a 90% decrease. Now, even if you can squeeze out another 10% of the remaining emissions, you are actually only gaining 1% overall. The investment is not worth it. Now, when you factor in the already "low" or "ultra low" emissions vehicles, the precentages became much less.

Once again, I am afraid that the whole emissions taxation scheme in Britain is just that: a taxation scheme. Although figures lie & liars figure, I am sure an independent study of the proposed results of this new taxing system would show that the only real benefit was to the UK Treasury. And I think we are heading down the same path.

Good luck, and don't forget to check to see who in the Parliment has stock in Daimler & their Smart cars & such. :lol:

they got rid of the gt beretta model in 93, you have to go for a z26 to get a decent handling package for 94+. (former beretta owner)

Not in the US (also former L and N body owner). Looked at a 94 GT yesterday with bad intake gaskets. Too bad the rest of the car was crap, too :lol:

Why would they increase the road use tax on a 4,000 lb SUV? doesn't make sense to me, especially considering you're already paying 2x the road tax of a car that gets 30 mpg city! that's STUPID!

Also, IIRC, the Hemi WK doesn't get much (if any) worse fuel economy than the 3.7 WK. for the 95 hp jump between the 3.7 and the 4.7, you lose 1 mpg city...for the 120 hp jump from the 3.7 to the Hemi, you lose 1 mpg city and 1 mpg highway. GREAT tradeoff, if you ask me. Just more proof that little engine doesn't necessarily equal good fuel economy. I honestly believe the KJ would have gotten better fuel economy with the 265 hp 4.7 than it does the 3.7, and could have used 3.55 gears to improve further...and still have some giddyup to it.

my beretta car forum i belong too is about 95% us car owners, the gt was stopped after 93, i promise you, the person who owned that car just doesnt know what they are talking about lol.
