Really appreciate the pics, great visual!
I know I will have to cut out the front bumper to get the hooks in so I am still debating between the skids and hooks.

The front bolts of the engine skid use threaded inserts already in the frame .

The other skids (back of engine, Tranny, trans) are generally held w/nutzerts into existing holes in the crossmembers. one of my nutzerts ripped out from a day of using the day so i got rid of them and have bolts going through the cross members holding the skids in place.

besides drilling through the cross member, I had to put new holes into the tranny skid to get it to line out. I also had to cut a chunk away to get the skid to mount flush w/out hitting the exhaust.

The gas skid uses the same holes and hardware as a rear hitch so there are threaded inserts waiting for you.

Edit: With your '07 you shouldnt have to cut any of the skids

an argument can be made for all of them being important, thats why they are there.

But...

Possibly the front engin and gas tank are the most vulnerable as they are on the approach and take off of any obstacle you will encounter. a punchtured oil pan or gas tank can be a real PITA on any trail.

for the price you might as well get all of them (from www.jparts.com). But if play on rocks of in water/mud where stuff can lurk you really should have engine/tranny/trans. If you're careful you can get away w/o the gas skid, but it is nice to know its there...

I took off my rear hitch to install the gas skid and it took at most 30 min

They all are equally important, even though I have yet to hit my gas tank skid here in the rocks of CO.But better to have than not,as soon as I would take it off I would hit a nasty sharp rock and punture the tank.My skids have saved me alot of $$$,would have had to replace the front diff($1400),engine($3000+),tranny($2500),and t-case($750) if I did not have them, better to pay $700(for my SkidRow skid plates) then a couple of thousand for a front diff and tranny.

Plus I would highly recomend a beefier tranny skid other than the OEM one,one hit and it's most likely toast.I have the SkidRow tranny skid(3/16" thick) and AllJ's has the superskid which is very beefy at a 1/4" thick.

I will advise on what I know
GET SKIDS befor you go off road they are cheeper than what the protect ,make sence?

I have the OE skids that came on the '03 ,I installed them but only a few months after we had the KJ
at that time Dc only offered 3
the front or engine skid wich protects from the sway bar to the rear of the front crossmember that the front diff is mounted to
the transfer case skid wich ONLY protects the T-case
the fuel tank skid wich ,well
These are fine for every place that I have been in the KJ the fuel tank skid is the same quality as the one on my TJ and I wheel the crap out of the TJ and that skid is beat up but not to the point that I am worried and I have come down real hard on it

Now about the trany skid it is a MUST HAVE item how ever the OE skid will take a lot of time to install and will be shot the first time you realy need it ,ask nolakj he ruined his on the first hit it ever took
I have made my own wich is holding up fine but it has not yet taken a real hard hit but only drug on hard dirt from bad break over
I know that it is 10X better than the stock and about 75% as good as the all J's super skid but if I add out riggers ,wich I plan to due one day,
it should be just as good but cost me 1/2 as much

get them all that way you wont have 2 and be someplace and rip a transfer case off and wish you had gotten all 4.

as far as installing the gas tank skid after a hitch, no big deal. If you are alone, a floor jack helps and i used a couple of STRONG zip ties. i took out the center bolts of the hitch, right next to them are access holes, feed the zip ties through these holes and the ones for the bolt, tighten them and remove other bolts, your skid should come with new bolts so use them as they have fresh thread lock on them.

with floor jack in place on receiver part of hitch (balances pretty well there) cut one zip tie

lower jack and cut otherzip tie and let hitch fall free, dont be laying under it.

feed a fresh pair of zip ties through the access holes and now raise the skidplate and use ties again to hold skid.

raise hitch and start one bolt on one side, then another side once you have one on each side insert the other two outside bolts. the skid sometimes will be a little out of shape from shipping so do be concerned if you have to bend it a little to line up holes and bolts.

once the four outside bolts are in but not tight, cut zip ties and insert final 2 bolts and toruqe up, I think 45 ft-lbs.

took me about 30 to 45 minutes once i got the zips in place.

one other tip is the exhaust pipe can be in the way on the front most passanger side bolt. i used the floor jack to move it to the side and it was easy to get a socket on the bolt then.

works best if exhaust pipe is cool.

good luck

My shackle is a Warn. I looked at a generic one first and the hook slanted to a side. I didn't want to find out the bad way that it'd make a weak point so I got the Warn. You can get one here for like 11 bucks.

I doubt it. This appears to fit 2005-08. I put Mopar skids on my '04 Limited. Engine skid, transfer case and gas tank. They do the job for my limited off-roading. If you want something that will stand up to more. Look at Rock Lizard or some other 3rd party. If you are expecting to do bouldering of any kind - get better skids and rails for your rig!

I suggest you take a look at this article.

http://www.jeepprojects.com/content.php?article.38

It shows the specific engine skid and how to put it on. Use anti-seize for sure and I used stainless hardware.

Good luck.
