I finally decided to plunk down the money for the suncoast torque converter. I've got one for
my 06 and one for my 05. I've noticed a couple of people here on the forum have replaced
their converter themselves. I'm considering replacing the converters myself and had a couple
of questions before I forge ahead.

1. Did you have to pull the transmission out from underneath the crd?

2. Is their anything special to watch out for when installing the new converter?
(other than lubing the seal.)

3. any rough idea how much the transmission weighs?

Also, on a side note. If you unplug the EGR, but leave everything else
plugged in, does anyone know if the EGR would fail closed or last position?

Dropped the trans\xfercase as a unit, rolled the unit back far enuff to pull the tc, in with the new, and back up and in, then did Transgo - about 6qts of ATF+4 syn fluid, tube of Permatex black RTV silicone goop, about 4hrs out and in, with help - Dodge can do it in ~1.5hrs :roll:

ECM knows when you unplug the EGR and will DTC alarmingly, no recovery - either unplug the MAF and constantly reset the DTC with the SGII or the Cobra DTC reader, or do the SEGR, options = none

Agree with general procedure but it took me more like 12 hours working by myself. Hardest part is getting to the upper bolts on the bell housing. Also, as the xmission comes down the dipstick tube comes out along with the rubber seal. Be sure to pull the seal off the tube and reinstall (or use a new one) in the xmission before reinserting the tube as the xmission goes back up into place.

I also drained and replaced filters and it took about 12 qts of ATF+4 to completely refill.

Not sure of the weight but I also dropped the xmission/xfer/crossmember as a unit. I used a motorcycle jack and wood shims and it worked great. I used wood shims between the engine oil pan and front cross member for support while the xmission was out. I also pulled the exhaust pipe from the turbo to the muffler to get access to the right side bell housing bolts.

what tool did you use to disconnect the transmission oil lines?
I've found some quick disconnect tools but I do not know what
size the lines are. Any suggestions?

Use yer thumb, or finger - special DCJ tooling not required

He means thumb, fingers, (and whole hand) on the open end wrench! Just unscrew and let hang.
