I found a non F37ed TCM and am trying to buy it from a the guy that is parting out his totalled jeep. My jeep is F37ed and was wondering if that would put it back the way it should be. Would switching the TCMs put my jeep back the way it should be?

How hard is it to switch the TCM out? Will I have to do anything special to my jeep after I put it in?

Should I go for it?

If you don't want it, buy it from him and I'll buy it from you!

My goal will be simple however: Get that firmware downloaded any way possible, so it can be re-flashed into everyone else that has been crippled by the F37. I'm going to get a Suncoast eventually, somewhere after 30k miles from now. I want that TCM for then. :)

It is very easy to swap them. Two nuts and a connector is all it takes.

Hold on now. I thought you couldn't do that because the VIN number in the "New" computer won't match and thus all the other computers will not play together nicely anymore.

Quick question. I see two control modules on the CRD. (keep in mind, I got the thing home Friday night) The one on the driver's side is the ECM (Bosch) and has a sticker on it that I think is from the recall. The one on the passenger side is the TCM with no sitcker. The part number on the TCM is P56044737AI. Is that correct? TCM on passenger side, ECM on the driver's side. Also, the TCM I found is from an 05 and mine is an 06. Is that going to be a problem? I ran the vin and it said that it needed the tcm flash done. Is that reliable?

Nope, that wont be reliable.
All that means is that the TC wasnt replaced under warranty.

They may have applied the flash at anytime, though.
The only way to know is to take it in and have the software version read off of the unit.

<Edit> See my post about my F37 experience here.

Note the software versions folks mention.

Thanks,

Next question. For those who haven't had the F37 done on an 06. What are the numbers on the TCM? I may have found someone to help me. My TCM ends in AI. I want to find out what versions didn't have the F37.

From the above link, it looks like the AF version is good. Is that correct?

What is the production date of your 06? Supposably November 05 was the switch over date. However I'm under the opinon that there are more then one version of F37 firmware. Mine was made in January of 06 and didn't get the F-37 recall. But when I took it in for the ball joint, heater motor and F31 recall for thirty party scanner's not working recalls in June 07 (NEVER HAD A CAR WITH SOOO MANY RECALLS) the tech told me I also got the F-37 formware  It's a all or nothing deal on flashes he told me.

I guess the 05 tcm will not work for me. So I am looking elsewhere. I will keep contacting the guy to see if he will definitely sell it. I am will let you all know if he is willing to sell it and will find out what info I can about it.

Mine is April 06. It is supposedly one of the last ones. Did you get a new sticker with the updated number?
What was the old number? I need to know. I have a guy that deals in TCMs and ECMs and can try to locate one for me. He says that the people he gets them from definitely want the right sticker on them and he is confident that the sticker on them is correct when he gets them. I really need to know if the neutering flash came on AH, AI, or even AF.

On my '06, I am not on the list for the F37 but the F31 certainly changed the power output. I suspect the torgue reduction was in the F31 as well as the F37. So if your catch had the F31, you may not gain anything.

That will be important info to know, and as I have an 05, I am still VERY interested in this. Please keep me posted, I do hope that I was the first to lay claim to it if you didn't want it... These are rare enough as it is, I don't want to let one slip past if I can help it.

PMs or email will be fine, if you want to take the conversation out of the thread.

Wouldn't the simplest thing to do be to take the VIN # on that CRD and plug it into the recall section of the Jeep website, and see of the F37 pops up as "needing" to be done?

Haven't owned a Toyota car over the past 6 years, have ya? Talk about recalls, amazing to me that people still think their cars are quality by default...

My Chevy S-10 was still getting recall notices 9 years after its production(was a 96, I sold it last year but had a recall as late as 05).

By comparison I've had one recall for my Liberty(blower motor) that I remember, and it was purchased more than two years ago now(Jan of 06). Not too bad.

So how did you avoid F45 for the body control module running down the battery, F31 for third party scanners not working and the one for the ball joints? And No I've never owned a Jananeese car thanks. I got my crd in May 06

I did that. It isn't 100% reliable. The F37 pops up saying that it needs the TCM flash and Torque converter. It could be a good possibility.

Geordi, yes I know you are first on the list. When the guy answers my email, I will PM you with info.

I still need help on the original lettering on the TCM sticker. Mine says AI, is AF pre F31/F37?

You got me on the ball joints, I'd forgotten that one. The other two I never got a notice for, perhaps my manufacture date was later than yours despite buying it earlier? They aren't outstanding when I check...
