Both Jeep and VW use the ISO9141 interface standard. (this applies for sure to CRD's and later XJ's. no experience on gas KJs) If your CRD is on the list for F31 that was caused by a earlier flash you'll need it
Anyone with a vag-con reader that will run the current software, not the original opto coupler version, can read their firmware version and more using vag-com's OBDII mode option 9 for "vehicle information. It gives the VIN and controler numbers along with a verification number for address 12 and 41. The numbers for address 12 match closly my TCM and 41 matches closely my ECM.
In addition under obdii > READ DATA there are 9 as I recall different things that can be monitored including boost, rpm, temperature and more.

It also worked with my past 96 and 99 gas powered XJ's but I had to make a special cable for the 96 xj using just 3 lines on the obdii plug.

So anyone with a interface that will run the current version of the software go try it out. For those with older interfaces, if you still have your VW and a CRD use their update program and get a new one :D
I'm retired so I can get the answers for questions you might come up with

Joe

Joe are you running the released v 704 or one of the beta versions? I've been using beta v 711 for a few months and they now are up to beta v. 803.3 which looks even better for non-VW.

Honey Don't

I'm using Beta 803 but was using 702 and it seems to work the same with both.
I forgot to mention that IF you have a cel, like you forgot to plug in the MAF sensor when you changed the air cleaner  it will show two errors, the MAF and "can't communicate with the ABS controler" but they will both clear. Also I don't know if it's related but on my last fuel low warning (non avic) I got a "tire low" warning instead  It went away when I filled up though so the BCM may be slightly confused.

I've used the "scan for modules" option but with my limited knowledge on the subject I didn't get any responses. I'm not a experienced vag-com user, I've just tweaked a few setting on my tdi like EGR amount

We have a tool here that will at least give sensor readings and firmware versions and maybe/hopefully more

Good input, Joe - that is more than a little interesting - if you'll keep track of those oddities, with specifics, it may help to explain other oddities, such as trans downshift with no warning, SGII dropout, etc.

Joe: Which version of the hardware you have. They want me to trade in my ISO-Com and buy the most expensive version.

If you look at the generic OBD2 coding, most numbers represent several errors, some as much as 10 errors, selectable by the oem manufacturer - thus, a tire pressure DTC in the DCJ system may be a low fuel DTC in Ford - both areas are covered under the one number - can sometimes result in wierd diagnostics

Steve I got the HEX+CAN Rs232 serial when I updated. My old P166 laptop doesn't have a usb port so I stayed with serial. Now I wish I had gotten USB instead. Maybe someone can chime in for sure but I think some of our CRD's computers use CAN.

You need newer software that has the "generic obdii" option. The latest is version 8.05  Unfortunatly it takes one of the newer "smart" adapters with the software key in the dongle. See this link.

Unless you have a VW or Audi product that you could use the advanced features on there are better options for you.
