I am on a quest to find a TCM that has not been "upgraded" with the new shift points. For those that haven't had the "upgrade," what are the last letters on your TCM? Mine says AI and I know that it is the post F37. What was the earliest version of the TCM and the last version before the F31/F37 fiasco? I am looking for the desirable letters on the sticker.

I am looking into a source that is confident that his suppliers have the right labels on the TCMs and will look for one (or more) for me. I will let you all know if it works for me. I just need the above info so that I can give it to him so he can look for it. If this works out for me I will let everyone know and give the contact info out.
Thanks.

I have an 06 built in 8/05 that I am pretty darn sure has never been flashed with F31 or F37. I am the original owner. The only work done in regards to recalls was in spring 06 when they replaced a filter in the tranny that supposedly contributed to a slow engagement of reverse if the vehicle had been sitting a while. I never had that problem before this was done, nor did I after. And later the ball joints and heater fan recalls were done. That is it. I have made it very clear that they DO NOT FLASH anytime I took it in, even long before F37 was out, because so many of you were complaining about flashes doing more harm than good from the get go. I don't specifically know what evil F37 does, but it sounds like shifts occur at higher rpms, and I sure have never noticed any change like that. I have learned exactly how to drive this transmission over the years and am very in tune with the shift points and esp the TC lockup points, which I work to achieve. I try to keep the rpms at just above the lockup dropout point of 1700 rpm whenever feasible for good fuel economy.

So could my ECU/TCM software be downloaded and used to upload for any of you unhappy campers? I have never had ANY problems with this Jeep, other than the rear main seal drips, but I don't know it is worth the greater risk of the harm some inexperienced tech might do trying to fix it. so it still drips. My EGR has worked fine, even after long periods of ORM inactivity. The transmission has always been fine and after 41k miles performs just the same as it has always. I give it an Italian tune at least once a tank. I did replace the muffler with a piece of 2.5" pipe lately... coasts better and mileage up maybe 1-2 mpg, esp in city driving. I average 28 mpg by the onboard calc with 60/40 highway/city. At 60 mph I can get well over 30 mpg if no headwind, and up to 35 mpg with a tailwind. My city runs about 25 mpg if I baby it. I guess you can tell I really like this Jeep, lots of character. I just wish it looked like a JK unlimited.

If it's a Bosch 776 you'll want a AB or BB - it's a 775 you'll want an AA - if it's a 773, send it to Inmotion, as that's the Euro version for the 6-sp manual shift...........................

geojunkie,
What does your sticker say on your TCM and ECM? That will help me out as well.

gmtcd,
Was that meant for me? If it was that is what I needed.

Those are ECM numbers\revisions: 776 is 2.8L 2\4wd, 775 is 2.5L auto, 773 is manual transmission right-hand drive and Euro - TCM would be 737AB (from 05) and possibly as late as 737AF would still be pre F31\37 - if F31 is for the scantool upgrade, you'll need that level to monitor it with ScanguageII\equiv

My TCM is 737AG and my ECU is 776AD. I am going to take it in for routine service soon, could I have the dealer read my current software rev levels for each without risk of getting an unwanted download?

That's a possibility - others have refused reflash and succeeded, but I don't remember if anyone has requested a live revision check

FYI - I read on good authority that Euro doesn't get all the revisional upgrades, and the 6-sp manual doesn't require TMR or EMCC, so the Inmotion tune would have F31 but never the F37-associated de-tune - another good possibility for upgrading without downgrading

Another option is getting a vag-com owner to read it for you  Over on the TDI club ( www.tdiclub.com ) there used to be a list of VC owners who were available. I lost my user name and password so I can't help you there.

If anyone is in or around columbus, Ohio I could read it for you or let you read it for yourself

So, if I am looking for an 06 ECM that hasn't had the F37 upgrade, I would be looking for a TCM with the numbering of 737AC through or 737AG?

What about a euro TCM? I have a contact in Spain that could get one for me.

That Euro source may be a good thing - if you want to run a dedicated stand-alone TCM, you would need a manual trans ECM which wouldn't go into limp mode, because it wouldn't be looking for input from the Jeep TCM - only problems would be they also have the 2.5CRD as well as the early 2.8CRD with vacuum EGR, no AFC\TV, and wastegated turbo - that could also be a good thing, except at federally-mandated vehicle inspection time

I don't have emissions testing where I live. Not even on gassers. Can you help me find out a part number and I'll give it a try?
