Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie from Texas that has been clicking around on this site lately, and learning alot from you guys. I do have an interest in the SEGR but have been slow to make my mind up on getting one because I'm unsure about any future clashes with the extended warranty if I did install it. Have any of you that have installed the SEGR had any issues with warranty coverage since installation? There may have been something posted on this at an earlier time and I may have missed it, but...I'm gettin old. Of course, one would still have to be avail. for purchase.
Any advice here would sure be appreciated...

I still have warranty coverage too and am in the same situation.
Prioritize what you think is important.
I have not been impressed with the dealership and am very leary of them.
For me the ball joints Moog K3199's, restrictive muffler, leaking air box and aluminum oil pan Fumoto oil change valve are the most important to get right.
It is your machine and this is the best place to get friendly info on doing it right.

Mine's an 06, and rapidly approaching the end of warranty. Looking over all the EGR-related failures folks have had, I decided to install my SEGR to avoid paying big expenses out of pocket for repairs.

Thanks for the replies so far. I recently had the 3rd EGR installed at 36087 miles, which the stealership kindly retroed, as my extended warranty did not provide coverage for it. I drove to California last week, but did the EHM before I hit the road back. I have no intention of buying another EGR 12000 miles from now. I've already installed the Fumoto valve, and had the ball joints replaced under the recall. I really do like the CRD, so following you guys lead on correcting some of the nagging problems with it is a definite plus for me. Will be inquiring about the SEGR availibility..
Thanks to all of you for the great site you are running

What extended warranty do you have. As I recall the only Chrysler one covering the EGR valve is the maxi care that several of us have. The real need for the mod is to stop the exhaust gas from causing soot build up in your intake manifold and ports in the head  It's a common problem with EGR equipted diesels and is not pretty. Last weekend my son and I cleaned out the intake manifold on his jetta tdi. It had been 60k since the last cleaning and it was over half plugged with crud from oil vapors and soot. There's more stuff to take off on our crd's and it's not "if" it's a "when" situation. So a Provent or Elephant hose are good first steps. You can unplug your MAF for off road use only aand that will shutoff the egr but you'll get a CEL after 2 or 3 starts and it will also run better. A lift pump will improve preformance and can be installed in the tank to be invisable or external by the fuel head as I had done and it can be removed in 5 minutes for dealer visits :D

I have Maxi Care also, but its thru CarMax, not Chrysler. I didn't notice the EGR was not covered per the pamphlet I got when I bought it. When the dealership called on it, they verified it was not covered. I checked my literature, and sure nuff, its not! Didn't know there was a difference in Maxi Care 100,000 mile warranties, but guess there is. Other than the expendable parts that are rarely ever covered, everything else appears to be.
I definately don't want the gunk in the manifold either, and started to unplug the MAF during the California trip last week, but didn't as I didn't know how it would affect it going thru the Mountains.

For most it runs better. I would think the MAF has to do more then control EGR but who knows :?:
