How are you doing down there with the floods? It sounds like you guys are getting hit pretty hard. A lot of our local firefighters got deployed this morning with the St louis USAR team, and my girlfriend and I have both been told to be on standby for deployment. Hopefully you won't need our help, but if you do there are a ton of people up here in the St Louis area ready to help you out.

Please post up and let us know you're ok, or if we can be of assistance.

We are high and dry here in northern hilly part of town, but some southern sections of town are experiencing some minor street flooding. However 30 miles north of us Highway 67 has been closed since yesterday afternoon. And several people have died when caught in sudden rising water.

Sorry got to go and evacuate daughter ibn low part of town,

Got the daughter & grandbaby home from low section of town, but looks like her duplex might be under water in a few hours. I drove through about 4" of water covered streets to get her out and back home here with us.

The whole of the south east side of the town has been evacuated due to one levee breech (they have patched it but...) and fears of the river just rising enough to come over the top of the levee and flooding a large section of the southern part of the town. This southern part has the industrial section with several large plants such as the Briggs & Stratton plant, Nordine (HIV-AC plant) and several others including the area NG center.

Another problem is the two lakes near us that are at max fill, one is the flood darn for the river here in town, and one is a rather large lake with earthen darn that my dad helped build back in the depression era of the early 1930's and has been through several extreme water raising's and has had some leaks in the past. I have heard the powers to be are considering evacuating the area below Lake Wapapello (sp) which is a very large area with several towns and thousands of people that might be in danger if a darn were to fail or for that matter if just the levee's were to fail in a couple of sections.

I'm glad to hear you stayed out of harm's way. Sorry about your family, though. Stuff is replaceable; people are not. While I'm sure you're starting to dry out and clean up down there, we're just getting ready for it to all flow downstream to the St Louis area. One of our rivers, the Meramec, is predicted to crest at 25 FEET over flood stage, just enough to set a new record. The previous record was accompanied by terrible damage. Thankfully, we got our federal disaster declaration already, so we should get some national resources to help out now.

I think it has peaked here today, but I'm not sure. The darn at Clearwater Lake runneth over up by Piedmont MO and that all flows down here in the Black River that goes through Poplar Bluff. Last I heard the area where daughter lives did not get water in the homes, but only needed another 8" 10" rise in the river and they would have had water in their homes.

Last night and this morning was the most boats coming into town or at local Holiday Inn I have ever seen here in town.

Glad you and yours are ok. The water always goes up before it goes down.

On a side note to everyone: When driving through water, it was generally a rule of thumb that it was a better to be in diesel than a gasser....but that was before all this electronic stuff. But it might make you want the Libby back if the water gets higher than 4".

In another year after the wife gets out of school maybe we can upgrade to a R320 CDI, ML320 CDI, or GL320 CDI, but no more Chrysler Corp cars for me.

Rough! Truly said, though. The most recent batch of jeeps is so pathetic that I can't consider getting another Chrystler car for a while. I have my eye on the GM Volt, though! The ML is a honey, I checked it out!

Speaking of which, how are the '91 and '05 running these days?

Old '87 I have is knocking down a consistent 30 mpg rain or shine on the work commute since I repacked and adjusted the wheel bearings. Been down for the past couple of weeks - went to finally replace that leaky engine oil cooler, just to find that some dolt at the factory had monkey toqued the steel nuts on the lines onto the aluminum fittings on the cooler - had to remove them via hacksaw and order a new set of lines as well. Once she's up and running again (hopefully tomorrow), going into the shop to replace the tranny seals and driveline flex discs - plus take a looksee and determine if we can stuff a GearVendors overdrive unit up in the tunnel - give'er a 5th gear for some interstate cruising.

Got a couple links to some dealers down on FL that are selling parts for quite a bit cheaper than most other places - $230 for the oil cooler and $307 for the oil lines - if you're needing any parts for the '91.

Well the 91 is knocking down a steady 25/26 mpg in town and is running very good despite wife's effort to make it intio a trash dumpster. :roll:

Had the tranny gone through last summer and in January had the injectors rebuilt & pop tested along with new glow plugs installed.

I need to pull the head and replace the head gasket before long I guess. At 195,xxx it should be done before to much longer due to aluminum head & cast iron block often start leaking about the 200k mark.

I haven't made up mind for sure what I will do, but I doubt she will go much past 200k by this time next year. I may just put it up for sale when she get out of school instead of messing with the head gasket unless it were to let go before then. I could probably have it replaced by a friend who is a MB tech and would probably cost only about $400 P&L if that much.

When we do sell the car someone will sure get a nice car. My tech buddy just loves the car and how it drives after all the years & miles. One thing the wife likes is just setting the temp control at one setting and leaving it, that is untill I drive the car. Other then oil & filter change the CDI has cost me nothing and is still a thrill to drive. I had a chance a while back to open it up and see what it would do, I backed out and looked down at speedometer to see 144 MPH on the digital speedometer.

Last summer I hooked up an el-cheapo boost gauge and ran it in thru the window, then took it out for a test run to see if the turbo and boost limit circuits were still working as intended. Popped in the kickdown switch doing 35 in a 45, and a couple hundred yards later when she finally kicked into 4th at 75 and was still pulling I decided that was enough fun for one day.

I still catch crap from the late-model truck guys about the clatter at idle, they call it "Woody Woodpecker". One guy said it sounded like his Ford Powerstroke - for which I gladly offered to run him over in the parking lot and give him an extended vacation on medical leave!

But when they start carping about fuel prices, and I chime in with "Yeah, it's a shame - I'm up to 28 bucks a week now for driving to work - what's it costing on that Duramax?", I usually end up with the last laugh.

Still only about 142K on this old girl - at 200 miles/week, she's still got a few years left before she hits 200K.

You decide to part with that '91, drop me a line - know a couple people that might be interested in getting one.
