What plugs do you guys recommend? Will I need any special tools? Are the two plugs on the passenger side rear as much of a pain in the arse as they look?

Anything else I should replace while i'm in there?

Replacing plugs is a 30 min job, real easy. The back 2 on the passenger side are a little tough but not bad, have a cooled engine so you don't burn yourself and so you don't pull the threads out of the aluminum heads.I use a 3/8" drive flex-head ratchet,6" extension, and a 5/8" plug socket to get all 6 plugs out(no removing of the coolant tank). You'll need a 10mm socket also for the coils.

Autolite double platnuims or Bosch single platnuims are good plugs(stay away from the +3 and +4 junk).

I did not have any trouble with the plugs on the '05.

I opened the air box and then removed the clamp from the tube at the throttle body. Laid the tube straight down the middle of the engine with the filter end by the radiator.

Removing a 10mm bolt removes each coil. It is much easier if you disconnect the coils from the wiring harness as you go, rather then try to twist the coil off/out while still attached to the wire.

The pass back plug was reached by using a universal swivel. I had 2 or 3 extensions and I just added/subtracted until I could get under the coolant bottle. I also used another extension to see if I could do it by snaking an extension by the bottle. No troubles.

I used autolite double platinums because that is what they had when I went to got them. Their lack of stock led them to give me a bit of a price break on them BUT: They were not all gaped at the .040 they were supposed to be at...

Changing the plugs & air cleaner ( I change these regularly as they really cannot be changed too often on an EFI) and the butt-dyno showed it to be more peppy & my MPG creeped back up.

Pretty easy job.

I recommend that you used compressed air to blow out around the spark plug before you remove the plug but after youve taken the coil out. No use in letting sand and crap fall down on the piston.

There are a few of us running the Iridium plugs here... I'm currently about 15K miles into my set. Since I'm too close to offer a final judgement on their usefulness I'll have to say the Jury is still out. The Jeep still behaves like it always did at idle and under power so no difference there. We'll see what they look like this summer when I pull them to glance at the electrode for wear, maybe the better wear will justify the nearly $50.00 cost for 6 plugs?

No trying to get off topic, but what do you set your gap at on the plugs, I'll be changing them this week, and was going to look it up then, but since we are on the topic of plugs...

I agree with what you said except the Bosch +4. I am using them and I love the response I get from thoes sparkers.

I actually PERFER Champions my self.

I can change my plugs in just about a half hour without removing the colling tank.

I prefer the autolite platinums or bosch single platinum, both excellent plugs. Gap them to 0.035". The last one on the passenger side can be a pain, but its not too bad.

WOOT: 600th post. :)

The plug gap for the 3.7 V-6 is 0.040",not 0.035".
