I'll be riding my motorcycle soon enough. I'm thinking in a couple of weeks it'll be warm enough then I'm good until the middle of November. I've got a Ninja 250 that gets 65 MPG for my commute of 35 miles a day.

I'm leaving tomorrow morning from Delaware to Washington State towing 3,000 lbs trailer. Starting out at $4 per gallon will make this trip one expensive haul. I hope I don't run into lots of rain and head wind.

Lately Subaru has been advertising their new Impeza Boxer Diesel on TV. I might have to go and check it out.

Tracking prices for the last couple of weeks, both what I see first hand and on MSN Auto, it's become obvious which stations are practicing price gouging, and those that are going by the accepted method of changing the price only after refilling their tanks with higher priced fuel.

The stations that are IMHO practicing price gouging have been changing their prices on an almost daily basis by 5 to 10 cents per gallon this past week. Given all the factors involved, there's no way in h### they're having to refill their tanks every one to two days.

The stations that are following the accepted pricing methods, the price is unchanged for a week or longer, before going up by 10 to 20 cents, then again staying steady for a long period.

After yesterday's government announcement to "not be surprised to see $4 per gallon for RUG this summer", it was like someone fired a starting gun for the beginning of a race - by the end of the day most of the local stations had raised their prices for both RUG and diesel by 10 to 15 cents.

I filled the jeep up last night for the first time.

We had the filter changed, and I didn't top it off as much as I did this time when I "really filled it" after we got it from the dealer.

18MPG. But we don't know exactly how many gallons it used, i'm guessing around 18.

I put 20.05 gallons into it. It had 360mi.

The biodiesel was up into the filler neck and standing (not draining down like last time). This is how I fill my Jetta.

We'll see how far it goes this time. I'm hoping 400 miles. Book says 20.5 gallons; so I know that the extra (it clicked off in the 18.something range) I crammed in was foam fizzing down and the filler neck's capacity.

Do you guys fill to the click off, or to the neck?

Oh, it was only $70.18 to fill it up. Judging by others, this is really chap. Diesel #2 was $3.95 across from the house. 5 mi down the road, at the rather hidden member biodiesel pump, it's been $3.50 since 2004.

I filled up at $3.69 a gal in Kansas today, it was $3.77 in Missouri 10 miles away where taxes are about a dime cheaper. Hmmmm.

I hope you get better mileage this time. I regularly break 500 miles. Last tank I went 531 miles on a little over 19 gallons.

I filled up last week for $3.69. Yesterday it was $3.82 although I've seen other stations charging $3.99.

Why? Its not the oil companies, its the speculators, and there is little the government can do.

Fuel at home in eastern MD is $4.09. I spend a lot of time in western VA where the price is currently $3.69 (Sheetz), plus for some reason I aways get 4-5 mpg more on the VA fuel. Anybody know why?

you get better mileage with higher Cetane (refinery tuning issue) or lower water content (shipping, storage issues).

VA might not have a winter blend either.... track into the summer to tell... i personally think they don't have winter fuel... i bought mine in VA this December... got 400+ miles (don't know exactly)... filled up here in PA i constantly get 330ish miles to a tank

Trevor, i have right now 300 miles on my jeep and only shows half tank. (about 25-28 mpg) As far as i know, we do have winter fuel right now (at least in north VA).

BTW, Diesel in North VA is 4.20 !!!

I had to fly out to Sacramento, CA where the #2 price is $4.15 per gallon (did not see any bio postings), lower than around Aurora, IL :o

I did notice cleaner air than in LA and the CHIPS were busting ALL the cars with expired tags as well as those committing other offenses.

Sacramento area CHIPS must be reading our Forum

Locals at the job site told me that the LA CHIPS need to get on the ball and do the same :!: :!:

Reflex is correct.

Oil prices are not set by the President or any branch of govenrment. It is a private industry that works off supply and demand. They have us over a "barrel", so to speak. We need fuel, and they can jack the prices up as high as they please and we have to pay it. It's pretty simple.

When was the last time you saw an oil company executive driving a ragged out Pinto or riding the bus. They usually live pretty lavishly, and they do so off profits made off of us. Heck, that's business. If you don't like the high prices, then stop buying fuel. Once America changes their habits and demand goes down, so will prices. It's just simple economics.

I disagree with part of that. Fuel usage has been going down, as prices go up. It has been reported that refineries are actually refining less gasoline than this time last year, yet the prices continue to go up.
I think we all know that companies set budgets each year to make more money than the year before, unless of course its just totally unrealistic. As for oil companies, nothing is unrealistic, as they have total control...probably over most of the "speculators" as well. It is certainly worth it to them for the speculators to come up with all the BS reasons one can think of to raise oil futures. I would think theres alot of "speculators" out there that are receiving money FROM oil companies.
Companies do not settle for less profits than the year before, especially public traded ones !! Don't expect it to happen with oil companies any time soon, no matter what the demand is.
If oil companies can get by with gouging the buying public (which they obviously are) so can the little guy that runs the gas stations.
Maybe the Windfall Prifits Tax needs to be reinstated, in a big way!!
