Might could lower the tank to the extent of the attaching bolts\straps and reach the connector, but it would be tight, even for a small man, or boy - look thru the pics of the various aux lp installs (retmil46, et al) to get a better sense of the task - you'll need to pull the rear seat, manipulate the rear door trim to lift the carpet, etc - could split the labor-intensive tasks by doing all that now

Looks like I'll wait for a nie warm day with a empty tank and do it all.

I did mine last night. Been trying for a while to get a warmer, dryer day between snow to work under it. I undid the front of the rear seat supports and held the bottoms up with the seatbelt. Pulling the door trim gave me enough carpet space to work through both cutouts and disconnect and remove the harness (you'll want small hands to do this). I dropped the tank on a tranny jack to get to the connector and remove the harness. I bought an 05 gasser harness and changed the pins on the end to make it work, taping up the extra plug. My guess is the gasser fuel pump connects towards front of the vehicle rather than towards the back on our CRDs and this is why it is 6" shorter. I was thinking it would have been a good time to change the diff oil while the tank was out but ran short on time. I may pull it again this summer and rewire the CRD harness to splice in the extra length but for now it works good. Changed the fuel filter and it primed it up nicely, no problem hearing the pump run with the key on. With a helper it would go quicker with less climbing around. Don't forget a self tapping bolt or sheet metal screw for the ground, wasted a bunch of time trying to find one large enough. Thought about using the seat mount but it is a clip nut and won't provide as good an electrical connection.

Ah - that would explain the insufficient wire-length - I used an '07 harness, which was identical length to our '05, just larger connector and a bunch more wires - I did the same with the seat-belt and the seat-bottom, not having the time to remove the seat - nor, wanting to.

Good job - folks may want to try ordering the '07 harness to get the correct wire-lengths, particularly now that the '05 harness seems to be on permanent backorder

Is the 06 gasser harness the same as the 07 gasser harness?

Part Number
WIRING, FUEL TANK 2006 LIBERTY 3.7L
56047848AB $51.78

If not, anyone have the part number for the 07?

That's the '07 harness number in my pics at the front of this thread

First number string would be p\n 54129423AA

The second number string would indicate the harness was QC'ed the 243rd day of '06

Parts are in, but it is still snowing up here. I am going to get the pins on the 06 harness connector this weekend. So those of you
who have the 06 for the 05, is the length of the wire sufficient, or just shorter than the one that is there, but it will work. Seems like
several have stated that it is shorter, but seems to work.

I am really confused by these posts. I don't know if the 2006 or 2005 harness has longer wires, and which I would want for my 2006 CRD.

Ok went back and read the original posts, Looks like the 2006 harness is the right length and is also the correct part for 2007. The 2005 gasser harness is too short by about 6 inches, but people have been making do by adding a splice.

I'm planning to just add the two wires to my original harness. Buying the full harness seems like an expensive way to get the 3 pins needed. I've got plenty of wire, and could easily put the two wires together if I had the contacts. I think I'll search through my parts and see if I can dig up a couple of pins that will work. I have a couple of connectors from the old sport seats I replaced, maybe a connector or two there I can cannibalize.

I nabbed an '07 KJ V6 rear harness from the boneyard, the one in my pics - I subsequently pulled the '07 fuel module connector, replete with 2 guage sensor wires and 2 lift pump wires, from the '07 harness, installed those wires\connector in my '05 KJ CRD rear harness - there was no difference in length - just threaded them into the '05 wire loom and terminated them, as in the pics - I do not recall them being short enuff to even consider any extension

Is the '05 V6 harness shorter than the '05 CRD harness - dunno

Is the '06 V6 harness shorter than the '05 V6 harness - dunno

Are the '05 V6 and '06 V6 harnesses shorter than the '07 harness - dunno

Is Spritzer down at the train station, as usual - dunno (but likely!)

Anybody that has bought the longer harness and have extra wires with the pins attached that could be used for this installation in my '05 crd could please PM me and we can make a deal to get them for my installation. I am not concerned with them being any particular color and I can attach the one end for grounding under the carpet. It will help you recover some funds you spent for the harness and will get them to me quicker and cheaper at the same time. I can either PayPal it to you or send you a personal check.

Scott

Ok I am getting the wiring ready today, so that when I drop the tank the wiring will be plug up and go.
1st picture shows the numbers 1,2,3,4,5 are full 6, 7 are full 8,9,10 empty. This is for my 05 CRD with
the 284AB wiring harness. 2nd show color and location.

1=blue/green stripe
2=green/burnt orange dark stripe
3=blue/yellow stripe
4=green/dark purple
5=green/blue
6=purple/blue stripe
7=purple/white stripe
8=
9=
10=

Now what should they be when I am done to run the pump--if I use this guide

'05 V6_______________________'05 Diesel
1 -- n\c ______________________ 1 - n\c
2 -- fuel guage sensor __________ 2 - Grn\2Rd - lift pump
3 -- fuel guage sensor __________ 3 - n\c
4 -- RWSS ____________________ 4 - Grn\Blu - RWSS
5 -- RWSS ____________________ 5 - Grn - RWSS
6 -- Vacuum Leak Detector________ 6 - n\c
7 -- Vacuum Leak Detector________ 7 - n\c
8 -- n\c _______________________ 8 - DkBlu - fuel guage sensor
9 -- n\c _______________________ 9 - DkBlu\Yel - fuel guage sensor
10 - n\c ______________________ 10 - n\c
Lift pump ground is separate black wire attached to the floorpan, bypassing the 10pin connector

If I use the above, I will go from the current 3 open areas to 5 open areas with no plug correct? and I have
a cable in #1 now which the above shows as n/c
Here are the photos before I start anything.

Well, folks, here again is most excellent example demonstrating the efficacy of employing semi-skilled and one-hour-video trained orang-utans from Borneo to interpret documentation and create FSM's (and prolly the parts, too): the component\assembly doesn't match the print - once more, thank you, DCJ

Need pic of that connector showing wire colors in the second row - also need pic of 4pin fuel tank module connector, other end of the harness, showing pin numbers\wire colors

'05 KJ V6 rear harness, actual part in hand(s):

Remove the Blue\Green wire from 1, put it in 8

Fuel Sender Plug has black ground on #1
Blue/Green Stripe #2
Blue/Yellow Strip #3
Green/Orange #4

Currently those wires are in the main plug at locations

Blue Green is in #1
Blue Yellow is in #3
Green Orange is in #2

Looking at the first picture in previous post, from left to right, you will see the three wires
that are in the fuel sender plug.

Good man - show'n'tell rules for documentation - our (and prolly yours, too) CRD harness uses Brown and Brown\Blue colors for the Fuel Guage Sender - these '05 V6 colors match the '07 V6 harness

Here is what you got, '05 KJ V6 rear harness, actual part in hand(s):

1=blue/green stripe ................ Fuel Guage Sender
2=green/orange stripe ............ lift pump hot
3=blue/yellow stripe ................ FGS
4=green/dark purple ............... Rear Wheel Speed Sensor
5=green/blue .......................... RWSS
6=purple/blue stripe ................ Vacuum Leak Detector Pump
7=purple/white stripe ............... VLDP
8=
9=
10=
Black ground wire with ring terminal, for floorpan ground point

Here is what you'll need to do:

Remove the Blue\Green wire from 1, put it in 8
Remove the Blue\Yellow wire from 3, put it in 9

This is what it should be when you're done, to run the pump--

'05 V6_______________________ Converted for '05 Diesel
1 -- DkBlu\Gn _________________ 1 - n\c
2 -- LgGrn\Or _________________ 2 - Grn\Or - Lift Pump
3 -- DkBlu\Yel _________________ 3 - n\c
4 -- Grn\Blu ___________________ 4 - Grn\Blu - RWSS
5 -- Grn ______________________ 5 - Grn - RWSS
6 -- Pur\Blu ___________________ 6 - don't care
7 -- Pur\Wht ___________________ 7 - don't care
8 -- n\c _______________________ 8 - DkBlu\Gn - fuel guage sensor
9 -- n\c _______________________ 9 - DkBlu\Yel - fuel guage sensor
10 - n\c ______________________ 10 - n\c
Lift pump ground is separate black wire attached to the floorpan, bypassing the 10pin connector

Howzzat - clear enuff?

Hey I think I can do it, will pull the plug apart and then put them in as directed.
Question, can I test the pump connected for just a second or should it be in
fuel when it is running. Also will snap a photo when I am done for your
approval. :lol:

DO NOT run the pump unless it is submerged in fuel - fuel is the only lubricant and is also coolant for the long run

When you get the rear seat up and the rear cabin connector exposed, post a clear pic of that with the wires and pin #'s visible, so I can define the wiring\colors\circuits - that should complete documentation of the '05 KJ

Will do, thanks for your assistance, without it I would have stalled.

Any tricks to getting the individual prongs out of the plug and into
the other sections, look like there is a clip in there, can't seem to find
anything small enough.
