I changed mine Thursday, took maybe 20 minutes. I bought the OEM from the dealer for , I think, $46. I did take the unit off the firewall to get at the water in filter sensor connection and to get a good grip on the filter, I would never have been able to get it off in place.. I did not disassemble the head unit but I did not see any leaks and have had no evidence of an air leak. I have 24.5K miles, I have had the CRD for 4 months and 4.5K miles. I mostly keep the heater plug out as I live in southern California, only hook it up when I go to cold areas. I worry about leaks but I think leaving the heater plug works well enough. It actually ran just a bit better after the change. Today I bled off a little air. I will go back to once a week bleeding checks.

The idea was good but I'll keep the oem/napa equivilant. Never had a problem with my crd losing prime until I installed one of these. Dealers also like to deny warranty coverage because of it. The negatives outweigh the positives. Besides, I changed an injector tonight on a Cummins N-14(basically the same inj psi's) with 750,000 miles on it. The truck only uses a 10-micron filter. Has anyone had an injector fail yet??? Worry about something else.

Actually yes, someone has. In my thread about the fuel return line popping off an injector, a CRD owner mentioned that he had an injector fail and it sprayed the compartment with fuel and that later resulted in some rubber hardware failing because the diesel fuel ate it up.

He wasn't from the stateside, but I also don't recall off the top of my head where he was from.

But, someone has had an injector fail.... to stay on point.

I have had an injector fail on mine. The dealer didn't give me a reason, but it might of had something to do with type of fuel I was running . That was at 11500 miles. I'm at over 30000 now no problem since, (well with the fuel system anyway). I still have the stock fuel filter setup and I won't change it until it develops a leak. BTW I changed my fuel filter at 25000 bled the air out and haven't had to bleed it since.

OK, let me rephrase the question. Has anyone had a injector failure that wasn't their fault? A fuel return line nipple breaking off is not a injector failure.
