Just want to check with you guys that I got the right filter (not that I don't trust the dealer parts guy).
I asked for part #4799662 Cooler Return Filter, and got a superceded part #5179267.
Is this the right filter?
TIA.

Also, anybody know where I can get a gasket instead of the RTV ?

Also, while I'm there, anybody put a Tranny temp sensor in, and where?
Might be a good time while changing the fluid.
Appreciate your thoughts.

I don't know the correct number, but my posting on Picasa may answer your question on the location of the trans temp sensor. If you are going to replace the filters, I would replace both of them. There were a batch of defective filters that did not have a anti back drain valve and GMCTD found them being sold on eBay.

Here is my posting: http://picasaweb.google.com/warp2diesel ... missionPan

RTV is best - just clean the mating surfaces with lacquer thinner to remove all oily residue, then squirt and go - you should also replace both filters, return and pan

Your requested filter p\n is the defective version - the version you got is the correct filter - Wix was making the original filter under that 479962 number, with anti-drainback valve - DCJ went to Purolator for second source, but forgot to tell them about the anti-drainback valve, so Purolator started shipping filters without the valve under that part number - with stocks being full of valved filters and non-valved filters, both same color and labeled with that part number, they eventually purged all those filters from stock, created a new number for the new valved filters, and went from there - you got the good one, 5179267

I found a guy on eBay selling those original 479962 p\n filters, advised him of the resultant problems, and that he should call the dealer for further info, whereupon he pulled the listing.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your very detailed and specific answers.

gmctd-you put my mind at ease. I colud just imagine getting it all apart and having the wrong filters.

warp2diesel-I am considering the PML due to a little extra fluid and a place for the temp sensor. Why did you opt for the #11039 extradeep and not the #10304 deep? Seems like the deep wouldn't hang so low. Do you have skid plates under it now?

My Flat Bed Beaver Tail trailer is 7000# fully loaded and the price on the 11039 was the same as the 10304 at the time I clicked to pay. I wanted the extra cooling and fluid capacity for towing.
Next big project is a PML 11039 specific trans mission skid plate that will have a grate to allow air to come in to cool the trans when towing.
I will post drawings with dimensions and photos when done.
PML asked to use my pics for their illustrations, I said OK.
