Just bought a new set for $300 installed for Bridgestones so I could not beat it even though they are 1" wider but 1" shorter than stock. Anyone have any input on speedo accuracy and gas mileage, etc. They look OK since the white lettering is gone so they do not look short but they are much wider which looks cool.

input?

Well your speedo was way off before and is even more off now. It also won't be good for mileage. But the most important thing is that you like the way it looks and drives...it is your Jeep.

Your going to loose mpg's going with a smaller tire then stock, you will be turning more RPM's in every gear and speed then when you had the stock tires which = less mpg's.

I know how it works...I will also get better ET's but that is not what I am asking. Has ANYONE had EXPERIENCE with these tires or am I going to be the first that says I lost 1mpg and my speedo is off by 3mph at 70, etc. I need input, not theories please.

90% of us here are putting larger tires on then stock, not smaller(which is just plain stupid) so no one will have any input about that tire size.

UMMMMM,255/55R18's are larger/same size as the stock KJ tire sizes(29.1" compared to 29" for 235/70R16's which is the biggest stock KJ tire). You might want to check your ignorance. You other 10% stay with at least the stock size. There is more to the L.O.S.T. board then just this CRD section you know.

You can run your bling, have fun with those curbs  .

Well thanks for the help. I measured them and they are only about 5/8 on an inch smaller so I doubt I will notice anything. My speedo reads about 4mph slower but I hear it does that stock anyway.

Go to this site and put in your old/new tire sizes. It will calculate the difference:

Wow man you just brought this site to a new low.

If you like them run them. One other thing you can look at is unsprung weight. If the tires weigh less than the OEM you could recoup some of the loss but since you are keeping track, they are propably heaver than OEM.

5/8 is almost an inch...thats a big difference and you will notice it. 4 mph slower is huge as well. tjskj2002 knows what he is talking about but again, if you don't want to hear the huge downside to go smaller than already small stockers, why ask the question. as he said, 90% go larger....maybe 9.99% stay the same...I doubt .01% do go smaller...why would anyone want smaller than stocks which are too small to begin with....your gas mileage is about to take a huge turn south.

or the optimistic would say 5/8 is closer to 1/2 then 1

Hmm, some folks here got a bit fast on typing their personal opinion as a general statement.
Please don't take them too hard, they have some great posting too! (unlike me  )

There's time when I feel like that russian trilogy(well 2/3).. some time I feel Night Watch and would spray rubber around a rim 275mm wide that goes phat out of the fender, and some time I'm Day Watch and want 155/85 and really put as much pressure on as small a surface as possible. which imho is a great snow/loose surface/fuel efficient solution.

Please update us with your results, the more diverse we are the better!

Wrong execpt about the fuel part, for loose surfaces and snow(not ice) you want the biggest contact patch to prevent sinking.

Your welcome.

As to the fact the lower unsprung weight will not offest the smaller diameter as to mpg's since your engine will spin faster at any given speed compared to a 235/70 tire.A 235/65 spins 34 revolutions per mile more then a 235/70 tire, that is a big jump(744 for 235/65,710 for the 235/70's).

Man, maybe everybody should take a breather and relax. No need for insults, even if they are true and often hilarious. The point is that we are all here to get help or give it. So if you are asking for help don't be so quick to dismiss someone giving help. And if you are giving help, don't be condescending (again even if it seems necessary and deserved). Well, I am officially off my soap box. Say whatever the hell you want... we are all big boys and girls, just remember why this site is here and who it is here for.

YEs I understand that and that is why I said because of less parcitic drag of unsprung weight they COULD recover the difference. Just like different driving styles. Hence why I am looking for lighter wheels to offset the 3lbs per tire increase I got going to 245/70/16. The CRD has an efficency RANGE of RPM that it can work with, that is the beauty of a diesel, to maximize fuel consumption. Weither I am at 1800 or 2200rpm my mileage is the same. 2300 on up to 3600 rpm the mileage goes down.
