Diesel is up to $4.05 in Ft Lauderdale. On my way to a job interview I passed by a Sunoco that was selling Off Road Diesel for $3.77. Outside of any possible legal issues, is the fuel bad for the CRD?

Thank you for you attention.

I had a friend  yes a friend  use off road diesel in there rig and had a fuel injector go bad. I really do not know if it was the reason that the fuel injector went bad, but I, I mean my friend, filled up the tank with on road diesel before taking it in. The dealer never told me, I mean them, what happened to the injector. That was about 20k miles ago, no off road diesel since then, no problems either, well with the fuel system anyway.

How are you going to fill it up with off-road diesel and no one see you do it?

Years ago on the farm, I filled drums of off road for the farm tractors.
I think you will find that is not ulsd but lsd diesel which is no problem.
I ran the old lsd for well over a year before the low sulfer came out, in my CRD.
As you seem to know already of legal issues, it is dyed and less sales
tax is imposed on it because it is for farm use only. Chances of you getting
nabbed in a Libby is slim to none. DOT looks at the fuel in the big rigs to make
sure there are paying their fair share of taxes. Not sure what the station attendent
will think of you putting it in you vehicle, though.

Food for thought.
Steve

If I remember correctly, hits been a long time ago, yes, I had to have an account with them
showing it was for farm use only. That is shared with the local ag. department.
edited after thinking about it.

If I saw you doing it I'd call the cops. Your stealing from every other taxpayer when you do that, including me personally.

Reflex, do you turn yourself in when you exceed the posted speed limit, or have you never broken a law?

not if the CRD in question was being used offroad. It is perfectly legal as long as you don't get on a public road.

Easy guys.
If I recall right, you have to be licensed with the local AG dept. to buy
the stuff. Same fuel just not as many taxes on it because of Ag. Hit is
meant to be for Ag purposes only. Hit is for the purpose of supplying
our Nation of food supplements.
I may be wrong and wish to be corrected if so. My thoughts go back to
the 70's when I was in farming so may be some rusty here.

Now back to the dude that wants to run it.
Wan't hurt you'r mill but may hurt the state that you live in and could
put your but in the lockup if caught.
Dyed fuel in anything other than a farm tractor is a no no.

Now back to the other dudes that say, I am in MOAB an off road and I can use it
because I am off road. Not a lawyer here but it sounds ok to me long
as once you touch the state roads that fuel is gone and you have legitimate fuel
on board.

Don't mean nothing here. Just for you to consider.
Steve

Hatchetman - I'm sure you can fathom the concept of scale. Doing 5mph over the limit does not in any way detract nor steal from other users of that road. Using fuel tax free however does in fact take away from other users of the road, after all the roads still have to get fixed, which means that the money has to come from somewhere.

john - Maybe you don't value your tax money as much as I value mine.

crd liberty - I know it wasn't you. I was responding to the intial post.

cerich - Of course, and I agree, after all there is no reason for road taxes(which is what fuel taxes are) if the vehicle won't be used on pavement for any significant length of time. But that wasn't the question.

It might also interest everyone to note that just about every stop and rob in the U.S. of A. has surveillance cameras. In many cases, these are routinely monitored by remote locations and the info is often shared with LEO's. Regardless of the legality-- putting it strait into the tank at the fuel station is asking to get pulled over. I also agree it is stealing road tax money. Now I wish the local government here would stop stealing that money and actually fix roads with it, but that is another story.

Sounds like you are saying we can all pull in and fill our tanks with off road diesel?
Or did I miss something there?
In my days that didn't happen. Off road was off road.

??????????????

Home brewed at the moment doesn't apply.
However , get it to the point where you can resell it, the Gov. will give you
millions in tax rebates whether you sell it or not.

Just my thought is all

Reflex, so it's ok for YOU to break the law a little? That is what an elitist would believe. You are endangering other's welfare by exceeding the posted safe speed limit!

.... for all the stuff he buys online and sends the money in quarterly.
Talk about a Holier than Thou Attitude, are we going to start burning at the stake next :?: I think that hatchetman will agree that Government is not God Almighty and burdening our Law Enforcement with turning some one in for fueling up out of the wrong tank is a waste of their time to say the least. Any traffic enforcement officer can find enough IDIOTS that need to be written up for stupid violations, is not woth their pay check. Fielding calls from a Reflex clone on petty issues or setting up a speed trap at the bottom of a steep grade is like shooting fish in a barrel with a laser guided 12ga shot gun.

The reason I WILL NOT PUT OFF ROAD DIESEL in my CRD is that it was designed to run on ULSD and Biodiesel blends, having to clean the MAP sensor from the crap that comes from the LSD and the EGR is enough of a reason.

If Reflex wants to turn in people who don't pay their share of taxes, start with the Pimps, Hookers, Drug Dealers, Illegals, and Identity Thieves; our Law Enforcement WILL appreciate that :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

Steve

BTW: I don't file for a refund for the tax I pay on fuel used in my lawn mower, chipper shredder, tractor, chain saw, snow blower, or weed whacker, even though I can, because it is a waste of time.

Once again, you do not know my activities but I am willing to pay the price if a cop pulls me over if I exceed the speed limit. My point to you is I hope your willing to pay the price if I call in your theft.

BTW, in most states the speed limit is not a hard limit, including WA state. It is very rare to get pulled over for going over by 5mph, and in fact chances are I'm already doing speed limit due to my odometer inaccuracy. Most times I am just going with the flow of traffic, which is the actual law. But regardless, no, I'm not putting anyone at risk, nor am I accusing you of doing likewise. What I am accusing you of is stealing money out of my pocket and the pockets of everyone else who is honest. Theft is theft, and I have little respect for thieves.

JL Rockies - Don't honestly care if thats what you asked. You asked about something blatently illegal, this is the response. Why would you expect a 'go ahead' from people who's money you would be stealing if you proceeded?

Turbo Tim - Depends on your state. Some have created exceptions for home brewers, some have created programs for them to make a deposit based on mileage, and some have legislation pending. I have heard of at least two cases however where people were prosecuted for running homemade biofuel without paying fuel taxes. Its certainly something that needs reform in most states.

As for internet sales taxes, the only way you are legally liable for sales taxes on internet purchases is if you buy from a company with a physical presence in your state. US Congress put a moratorium on state taxes on internet commerce back in 2000 and its gotten renewed twice now. Nice try though. ;)
