Now that it's time to use the heater, I've noticed something kind of strange in my 2005. When I move the air-direction knob to blow air into the footwell, the following happens:

1. It takes about 10 seconds for anything to happen; and
2. Air blows into the footwell AND through the windshield defroster vent making it REALLY noisy.

Before I make a service appointment, I just wanted to know if this was normal.

Thanks.

The delay appears to be normal from the past posts on here. Though, it doesn't hurt to ask your local Jeep service dept.

The HVAC system in the liberty is controlled thru vacuum. It takes the vacuum door a few moments to move between positions and this is why you experience the delay. Every Liberty has this problem.

Some air is always coming out of the defroster grille to keep they windsheild clear during these "less warm" months ahead.

I too have the same situation...PLUS....when I have the heat control knob about halfway, I can hear one of the doors in the heater box opening and shutting. At first I thought I was coming from the suspension but I finally tracked it down. It doesn't happen when the knob is at full cold or full hot.
No big deal now that I know what it is.

The delay sounds normal. When my vent control is at floor setting, most of the air blows out the floor vents, although a tiny bit of air does blow out the defroster vent too. When I switch to floor/defrost position, the air blows
pretty much 50/50. To me, the blower is noisy in either position.
