Lubrication question

I want to perform a complete component lubrication as part of periodic maintenance on my KJ. But I don't know wich ones need to be lubricated and which not. I've read in another thread that components are sealed and permanently lubricated so they don't need any kind of maintenance. But in the owner's manual it says:

"Driveline And Steering Component Lubrication.
U-joints (cardan joints) are sealed and do not require
lubrication. Prop shafts, yokes, ball joints and other
driveline and steering components may be provided with
grease fittings for lubrication. Lubrication of these components
at the intervals specified in the appropriate
Maintenance Schedule in Section 8 is very important,
particularly if your vehicle is subjected to off-road or
other heavy-duty use. See your authorized dealer for
complete service information."

But, where are those grease fittings located? I can't find them anywhere.

And Section 8 (maintenance schedule) don't even mention lubrication of those components as a task that should be done as part of the periodic maintenance.

Can someone explain what kind of periodic service should be done to driveline, steering, suspension or other components that are not covered in the maintenance schedule but are important to do?

How do you maintain those items in your KJ?

No grease points on the KJ.

Unless you add the MOOG LBJ's and Al's UCA's,then you have 4 grease zerks.Or replacing the OEM u-joints with greaseable ones will net you 2 more.But on a stock KJ there are zero grease zerks,totally sealed to let water and dirt in and let the grease out :wink:

Two schools of thought on that: the sealed ones aren't supposed to let water in and maintenance free. I've been in lots of water and so far/so good. The other is greasable but they say with those you have to grease them religiously or they will let water in.
But............. if I replace mine it will be with greasable ones, just like the idea of greasing them like I do with the 4 ball joints!

You forgot about moog outer tie rod ends and the sway bar bushing mod.

You forgot about moog outer tie rod ends and the sway bar bushing mod.

Do you have a part number for greaseable tie-rod ends? Ive always wondered if they make those.

Outer tie rod (Left/driver): Moog ES3535
Outer tie rod (Right/passenger): Moog ES3536

Maybe you can come over and grease my KJ in a few months,by then it will have 22 grease zerks.
