Ok so here's the deal..when you drive on the fishing beaches around here at night, the fishermen on the beach get reeeally annoyed at vehicles that have their headlights on (it's most common practice to use your parking lights instead) this is because the regular headlights are really bright in comparision to the surrounding pitch-black environment and not only does it disrupt the fishermen, it also may disrupt any schools of fish close to shore and also the fishermen can lose their nightvision briefly if they glance at the bright lights. So with that being said, I'm looking into additional "low" lighting for my reny. I was initially thinking of replacing the lights in my lightbar with amber lights, but I'm not sure if this is possible? What size/watt are those lights? If it is possible, this would be the perfect solution! Or do they make tinted caps that I could pop on/off the lightbar lights to make them dark/amber? Otherwise maybe I could install some generic truck cab leds somewhere on/behind or in front of the lightbar. Anyway I'll be thinking about possible options so if you guys have any thoughts let me know..thanks!

You should be able to buy some yellow or amber film that you could cut to size and apply to your lights ,it's a bit like installing tints on windows .
Last item on the first link page the tinted one says it reduces brightness which may be of help.Cant you just use your side lights ?so as not to upset the fishermen.

Hey that's a good option, i'll look into jimmy jeep..thanks. yeah most of the rigs that run the beach (ie dodge ram/ford 350s) have tons of "extra" lights for ambient visibility in addition to their parking lights, so having some extra lights on top couldn't hurt...... 8)

Well, why not just use your fog lights or run on daytime running lights if you have em.

I am sure you can put a filter on your Renny lights if they don't get too hot ie. red ideally to minimize the transition to light/dark for the eyes but what are the legal consequences for such mods?

What is more important:

You seeing where you are going

or

Fishermen losing their catch

Will the fishermen pay for your damage or liability if you turn off your lights and hit something or someone?

Just a thought but if you dont mind an extra set of lights what about a set of amber fog lights. They throw enough light to drive with and arnt blinding.

get some 4 inch 55 watt tractor lights, they spread a wide low beam not bright but bright enough to see to drive by. Plus you could point them down kind of low as to not distrub others.

That's a good idea, I wonder if I can replace my factory "fog" lights with amber ones...
Also, I mentioned the top cab lights because using the parking lights alone to see gives me the driver plenty of visibility it's just that I want oncoming vehicles in the same ruts as me to be able to see ME clearly in order for both of us to make the proper "move" ...and accent lights on top really seem to do the trick from what i've seen on trucks. Do you think I can get away with putting a few of those on top somewhere?

I wonder of there is anyway to add a dimmer to the roof lights? could have a very limited application, but could be done. it would have to be done to they power feed of the lights AFTER the relay. Is there a single wire leading to the light group on the roof?

You could dim them on the beach and have the safety you want with the ability to adjust them.

A dimmer....now there's an idea. You can get one at a junkyard from any old car. The main feed for the lamps runs in the left A-pillar cover. You could also fit a resistor in that wire with a bypass to a switch. Flicking the switch lamps come on full / or at half steam.

A friend of mine fitted 4 high power white LED's in the roof lights, just above the halogen bulbs ( so one in each lamp ). Also nice but more work.

eeeh, from the top of my head these are H3 55W bulbs? So 55X4:12=18Amps  Be carefull.

That dimmer idea is great but yeah I hear ya on the wattage so I'm not sure I would want to mess with that but I know a couple pros that are great with wiring so maybe they could take a look and see if it can be done

Any Reostat type dimmer should work. just finding one atractive enough to mount in the KJ.
