Do what I did, get pics of your jeep going something incredibly awesome, and then show them a scrape on the other side and say "I wouldn't have hit that if I had been an inch higher....."

http://www.thechucklesstart.com/car/9-6-04/

(or maybe you could bend the truth and say it is required for extra skid plates, but if your parent know what they are talking about that's a bad idea)

EDIT: sorry to hijack, that is awesome, but that is definately where my parents would remind me this is supposed to last me till I'm out a grad school

Why are you 02-04 guys messing up your beautiful bumpers? I really wish the 05 bumpers looked like that; the new plastic ones are stupid

The approach angle is poor with that plastic bumper... When you cut out the fog lights there is very little to drag on rocks. Most of the folks I run trials with have gouged that portion of the bumper MANY times...It just doesn't belong there !!!

The '05 bumper has less in the way ....maybe you like the way the others look but the newer ones work a little better than the old ones. After all...it's only plastic anyways :)

Man, I wish my parents would have bought me a $20k+ vehicle when I was in high school. I ended up with an '88 S15 pickup with that awesomely powerful (yeah, sure) 2.8L V6 and I even had to pay for it myself.

Anywho, looks good Matt. I wish I was brave enough to do something like that (and that the wife would let me.)

For those with '05 Renegades or Sports at one person on here cut off the bottom half (below the two "tubes") and it looks great now.

I think that looks wicked. At this point I lack the courage to start hacking away but if I ever get into a little fender bender I will definately experiment before replacing the bumper.

Nice work :)

Lol, same here. I didn't think parents really got their kids nice vehicles. Thought that was just in the movies.

My first vehicle was free. My cousin had a 78 Toyota pickup that was broke down. He said if I could get it running that I could have it. I did and since it was totally mine (not my parents) I could cut anything off of it that I wanted and I did. I cut the roof off put a roll bar on it and slapped on a Jeep bikini top. Most fun vehicle I ever had.

I had a 98' Explorer (It was awesome, leather, factory mach sound system with 6 disc changer etc) that was my dad's, but he wrecked it right before it would have been mine  . The reason that they bought a 20+K KJ for me is that it will be passed down to my two younger brothers in the future and they wanted it to last that long. I guess I just lucked out being the oldest  . My brothers get all the stuff that I paid for on it though, so they don't exactly have it bad either.

 sounds like some spoiled kids on here. I had to walk up hill both ways in the snow.......... then my 1st vehicle was a dog sled w/ two old dogs.......

But back to the topic, The new, improved bumper looks great Matt.

Ya.. i had a $100 dollar 86 S-10 Durango 4x4, it was rusted out andbarely ran, then i had a beat up 96 sunfire, but there were tranny problems, so my parents decided to get me a new vehicle to get me through college, They ended up with an 05 ranger Edge, but my dad wanted a truck more then me so now I got the KJ, which is alright by me

I've thought about doing that but I like my fog lights too much. Until I figure out a replacement for them, it'll have to stay stock. Looks good Matt.

Fog lights are good; I'm 6 miles from the coast so they come in handy. Will remount some new ones but out of harm's way.

Great job Matt! Tempting....Just aim above the existing scrapes and go to town.

First car: $500 1971 Toyota Corona Deluxe. Not sure if it was the fancy am radio with the one speaker in the dash or the floor mats that made it deluxe.

Thanks Nanette. If your not a Calico I'll at least be thinking of you. Sitting around, eatin' Turkey, watching ball games, all those adult things.

Lol, This girl back in high school had one of those. Every time she parked it we would move it to a different spot in the parking lot so she couldn't find it at the end of the day. I went to a big high school. Parking lot was huge and she was always P Oed to say the least. Ahhh, the good ol days.

Oh yeah, $500...wow you got ripped off.

Sandi, Blue's my next favorite color but I didn't like the metallic looking shade they offered in early 01.

Do you have close ups of your cuts? Did you relo the washer bottle. You can pm pics to matt_townsend@earthlink.net
