Buzzer

Hi All,

The ding-dong buzzer that goes off when you leave keys in lock with door open, does anyone know where it's at ?.
Looked , unplugged various relays/potentiall buzzer device but can't locate it.

Thanks for help.

think its built into the bcm

Most if not all the computers in the vehicle have some reason to make noise, but the Instrument Cluster has the actual "electromechanical transducer" (speaker

) in it.

The other computers ask the cluster to generate sound by talking through the PCI data bus, and a few items are directly hardwired into the ElectroMechanical Instrument Cluster (EMIC) too.

The '06 KJ Service Manual talkes about all this starting on page 8B - 11, called "CHIME WARNING SYSTEM".

Here is the verbiage on the "key in ignition" chime:
Key-In-Ignition Warning - The EMIC transducer will generate repetitive chimes at a fast rate when the ignition switch is in any position except On, and electronic messages are received over the PCI data bus from the BCM indicating that the key is in the ignition lock cylinder and that the driver side front door open. These chimes will continue to sound until the key is removed from the ignition lock cylinder, the driver side front door
is closed, or the ignition switch is turned to the On position, whichever occurs first.

For the "key in ignition chime", it looks like the input from the ignition switch to the BCM is pin # 5 at the ignition switch (violet with a tan stripe) and pin #8 in BCM connector C1. It's a 20 gage wire. This info. is on page 8B - 4 in the '06 KJ service manual.

If you want to get rid of the chime permanently, remove this wire out of one of the 2 connectors described above and tape it up. I wouldn't recommend this though, because this input also keeps you from using the electric locks to lock the keys in the vehicle. :oops:

To temporarily disable the chime, (say if your working on the vehicle and the chime is driving you nuts) open the instrument panel fuse box located on the left side of the dash near the drivers door. You will find 2 "fuse carriers" in the fuse box, one is yellow, and above that, a white one. Use your thumb and index finger to squeeze the white carrier's tabs and pull it out about 1/2 inch. This will temporarily remove power from the chime system and let you work in peace (it might erase your radio station presets too).

Great, thanks for the replies. yes I have reached my KJ buzzer limit . at least I have few options to disable now!.

What? Why would you want to disable the warning systems? Disable the speaker I say!

You need that ignition switched output, if you don't have it a lot of systems won't come on when you turn the key in the ignition.

I hate my speaker as well, it chimes once when I start the car even with seatbelts on and everything. Sometimes I get lucky and it doesn't chime at me, mostly that is when starting the jeep up after it has already been warmed up by a previous trip 10 minutes ago.

From the '06 Liberty Owners Manual (page 45):

The Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert) can be enabled or disabled by your authorized dealer or by following these steps:
NOTE: The following steps must occur within the first 60 seconds of the ignition switch being turned to the ON or START position. The manufacturer does not recommend deactivating the Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert).

1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, and buckle the driver’s or front passenger seat belt.
2. Turn the ignition key to the ACCESSORY/RUN position (engine does not need to be running), and wait for the Seat Belt Warning Light to turn off.
3. Within 60 seconds of starting the vehicle, unbuckle and then re-buckle the driver’s or front passenger seat belt at least three times within 10 seconds, ending with the seat belt buckled.
4. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position. A single chime will sound to signify that you have successfully completed the programming.
The Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert) can be reactivated by repeating this procedure.
NOTE: Although the Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert) has been deactivated, the Seat Belt Warning Light will continue to illuminate while the driver’s or front passenger seat belt remains unfastened.

It worked on my 05, did it on day 1. Back when I used to drive Ford PSDs for hours at a time on bumpy dirt roads for the Govt. we used a similar, more complex (!) procedure from that manual also.

Regarding the door-open key-in buzzer- With a TDI one can use vag-com software to switch the instrument cluster to U.K. and other country modes.
In U.K. mode the speed is still in MPG, time display changes to 24 hour, and the door buzzer is deactivated. This might be worth asking a cooperative dealer about- is it possible to change to U.K. mode with their interface, what are the effects?

It doesn't seem to work in mine.

I have a few questions as the guide is a bit vague to me.

Do I get into the car, go for a drive, turn it off, and THEN start the engine remove-insert-remove-insert-remove-insert the seatbelt and shutting it off afterwards?

It says you don't need to start the engine, but it didn't work for me anyway.

Can someone tell me which section this procedure is under in the owners manual? I can't seem to find it in mine. Perhaps it doesn't work at all in my 03.

No, basically just start with the engine off, buckle the seatbelt, then turn key to accessory....etc etc etc

Tried it with buckled seatbelt, key to accessory, radio comes on, lights in doorlock button comes on, I unbuckle and buckle back up like a madman and turn the key to off position. No beep is heard.

Beeps when I try turning the key to ON without the seatbelt on. Darn it.

your bcm doesn't support it then it seems. I would talk to a dealer about disabling it.

The Seatbelt disable trick did work on mine , build Dec 05 (06MY),

Annoying specially with car door open and having the radio on , camping, cleaning ect.
not life or death or anything, just would be nice if I can axe it.

Why do I need warning buzzer anyway?, jeeps fade away.... they don't die on road suddenly

you could always cut the wire to the switch on the door.... the only problem is the lights would
not come on when you open the door... but the courtesy lights should still work

or wire up a simple toggle switch by the fusebox that would allow you to selectively turn them on and off, that way when camping and having the drivers door open you could turn off the chime by flipping the toggle.
